Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

Vlad...i want to thank you for all your work with this. As well as Masalma(sp). I have had a great time fooling around with this. I havent been able to get Susan to work for me either but its not big deal. I am now playing with both the orginal and Igo8 and have found great features with each. I am at the point now that I am trying to decide which to use.

If you guys have some time, it would be great if there was an easy way to select which to use at start up. I can do it but Im thinking more about tech challenged people that wont know how to look for it when its turned on. It would be nice to be able to switch between both if one doesnt cant find an address and perhaps the other can.

Just a thought. Thanks again, it is fun

That's one of the nicest things I've ever heard you say!!....LOL...:D:D Be proud Vlad....be very proud!! :D:D

While we are on the topic of GPS stuffiness...

Does anyone know of any software with maps for Japan? Does iGo8 have maps for Japan? Ive tried looking for something... anything... but can't seem to find anything that I can put on this or any other windows mobile or windows ce based GPS... grrrrrrr...

Thanks for the great instructions guys!! I am using mine and its really easy to use! I am finding iGo8 a little complicated with so much info and options packed in, but I spent a good 20 mins fiddling around with it and took it for a drive. And its been pretty cool so far! I used to have copilot, but iGo8 trumps that software. Although, I found copilot to have a very basic simple UI to follow right off the bat.

I was wondering if anyone know if there is a way to set up live traffic monitoring on this?

thanks again guys for the wealth of useful and helpful information put here.. Not only is this excercise beneficial but also lots of fun..

I have got almost everything so far.. I'm trying out the skins the kicker skin worked however ultra doesn't show up under my skin menu .. What could i be possibly doing wrong.. at the moment my skins are all placed in iGo8\content\skin Your help is greatly appreciated

For the Ultra one, just copy paste the zip into the skins folder.. thats it.
Then edit the sys.text as noted above, restart and choose the Ultra skin in the GPS menu

Ive also managed to add a few Windows CE desktop backgrounds that stay put even if you reset the gps. (Put them on the TFT drive and add thru control panel>display)
They are made for this size of screen and are from another GPS I have hacked.

My pleasure, really :)

can i get your ftp site

Post 88 in this thread. Speaking of FTP, I'll have to reserve the right to restrict access to the password if it becomes too "popular". It doesn't cost me anything to host the files yet, but it probably will if only a fraction of Curtis' customers start downloading tens of gigabytes each. Dog only knows how many of these things were produced and sold all over the world :).

I opened the case (couldn't resist :) ) to see what it's guts look like and examine the battery. Bad news is that the battery is not by any standard that I know of. Good news is that the case is easy to open, and the battery is quite accessible (connected to the PCB with a connector and appears easily removable). It also looks like some cell phone batteries I've seen which leaves a possibility for a replacement. Voltage is 3.7V, capacity 1100mAh.

On a side note, the antenna is tiny - about one quarter of those in Garmin pocket models. Reception does not seem to suffer from it at all though.

i got it figured out now...finally...thanks everyone...stuck on the miopoket mod now..i followed the instruction and the autorun is not working...i'm sure i missed something..

after i copied the required files, am i supposed to change the shell.ini files?

i have files on my SD root => Media folder, MioAutorun Folder, Autorun.mscr, MortScritp.exe

pls telling me what i'm missing

thanks

hey!

i was facing the same problem like you.. there's is something definitely not right.. Anyway i still managed to install it by cheating my way through.. i changed the shell file back to reboot from explorer.. \windows\explorer.exe..

then i rebooted the gps..
went to run and chose autorun.exe and just installed like any other software.. it asks you where u want to install it.. so i just installed it on my sd card.. figured the internal memory won't be big enough to handle all this..

hope this helps

thanks..that did the job

Haha thanks Vlad, I opened mine too.
I think we could mod it with any slim cell phone battery by soldering it on to ends of the connector.
Get a higher mHa battery and itll last longer.
Wonder if we could sort of weather proof this too.. silicone inside all the seams maybe?
