Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

I want one!

I don't have a car and I am waiting till next weekend to get my bike out of storage.. If anyone lives downtown and is grabbing one. if they could get an extra I would pay you back + beer

sweet deal

It's easy to add shortcuts to the desktop but every time you reboot (reset button on the side or the GPS crashes) the shortcuts are gone.

There might be a way to back them up in the SD card and restore from there at every boot...

Make sure you select Kate V3.3 .. Not Kate v1.0 ... It works fine with mine and everyone else's I've setup.

They all work for me now and I find Susan most pleasing (nothing wrong with proper Queen's English, but Kate's Cokney does not appeal to me). I probably was choosing wrong versions because I didn't perform any special actions since I first complained. Just copy over the TTS files, copy dictionary files and you're good to go. 'Droids still can't pronounce Gardiner Expwy as Gardiner Expressway, but that would be too much to ask of them. :laughing8:Thanks!

So, the complete clone posted by Splash works fine, including Kate v3.3? Has anyone got Susan going with Splashe's setup files?

Not sure if i mised how to do it but i downloaded ther high volume mod file for Igo8
and dont know how to install it

also when i try to install mio it cant find the sdmcc card it is coming up as a my documents folder and will not allow me to rename it

Thank so much

Susan is working for me, but I have re-installed her in the mean time so I'm not sure if it's the same with the original Splash' setup. I'm running UAT on one of the colleagues units today and will post the revised complete setup soon. For the sake of space and speed I'll probably strip US related stuff - that can easily be added from "iGO data" folder, as well as European and other maps.

It was a simple copy, as far as I can remember. The instructions should be included. BTW, iGO8 works OK even without that mod.

I'll leave this to the Mio team to answer. I'm focusing all my spare cycles on iGO for now. (brushing up on my project management lingo :happy3:)

If any of you guys missed this deal, don't despair. I just got next week's CT flier and they are knocking 30 to 50% off some of their megellan, nextar, and garmin gps units.

You might not find one for $47, but you might still get a good deal.

They also have a 241 piece socket set for $99 - 60% reg price, as well as torque wrenches on sale.

It's a great buyer's market out there for those that still have jobs!

FYI, I've done a major reorg of the FTP site, it should be much more logical and easier to navigate now.

I have added the iGO Canada complete folder for those that want to get the iGO running ASAP and do not need US maps and data. It is pre-configured - no initial configuration is necessary. It also has all 4 English (m/f Brit and m/f US) TTS voices.

You can always add any extra maps, poi, dem, etc. from the iGO data folder - it's as simple as copying files to your SD card.

As always, let me know if anything is outdated, missing, not working, etc. I consider this a colaborative effort :)

if anyone is interested... i've been using some different skins on my unit, they display more of the main map while retaining all the controls... which is great considering that the resolution is so low on these screens.

i've found these 2 skins to be pretty good:
igo8 ultra skin -> http://rapidshare.com/files/204023297/iGO8_Ultra_6.0.12.zip
kikker skin -> http://uploaded.to/?id=1v285j

u basically just throw the zip files into the "\content\skin" folder

u must also add the following code to your sys.txt file:
[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"
resolution_dir="320_240"
maxzoom2d=6000000
screen_x=320
screen_y=240
show_exit=1
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
screen_x=320
screen_y=240
class="landscape"
driver="GDI"
note: the kikker.rar file has some instructions on where to place the files... so just read the readme.txt file. the igo8 ultra u just have to move into your skin folder. skins are accessible through the menu system somewhere (can't remember off the top of my head right now but u can't miss it)

Excellent, thanks! I'll check them out, update the instructions and post them ASAP.

With the TTS call street by name voices?

Vlad, did you get your European maps to work?
I downloaded what you have on the ftp, and placed them in the appropriate folders... but when I zoom into europe all that is there is the dem. When I search for an address, I only have Canada and USA as options.

Interesting. I haven't tried the European maps yet, but I assume just copying them to the maps folder should work. Can anyone else confirm, or better yet send me the ones that do work? Maybe we are missing a configuration somewhere else?

that ultra skin is the cat's arse... makes the screen much more visible. Cheers for that

ooh that skin is nicer.. cleaner.
BTW what is buildings??
:D

Buildings are just that, 3D buildings. Cute but not essential and may slow it down a bit.

BTW, I can't get those skins to work, neither of them. I wonder what on earth am I doing wrong :)

Edit: Aaaahhhh, you are not supposed to unzip them! :evil3:

Anybody have battery issues? I seem to only get about an hour out if it before it tells me the battery is low. Or this normal?

It's not normal. I've been running mine for a couple of hours or more with display on max and I've heard that they should be good for about 5. Try to get it replaced if you can find a store that still has them. If not, you have a good candidate for some hardware modding. Who knows, I wouldn't be surprised (actually, I'd be delighted) if the batteries turn out to be just standard AAA/AA soldered together. Damn it, I'm going to open mine ASAP, can't wait :).

Skins are tested, re-packed and up in the \iGO data\Skins folder, along with instructions. Thanks giddyup69 for the tip!
