Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

So has anyone downloaded slash's files? I need the us maps too .... can i just reinstall over my existing igo files? or do i have to start fresh?
Thanks for all the help folks!!!!

I'm downloading Splash' setup and will post it on the FTP soon.

If you already have iGO8 installed properly and just want to add maps, elevation profiles, etc. go to my FTP site and pick up whatever you need from \iGO data folder, individually or in bulk :). I'm still uploading, but it should all be there by the end of the day.

Delete all your old iGO files, install these. Everthing worked perfect for me except the upgraded voice. I still use the normal one.

I bought 2 as well and no card in either. Some rare buyers are getting the SD card and we suspect it's another version, older version of the Curtis unit. Be careful following the steps posted as they may not apply directly to you.

Suggested steps (keeping in mind I have not seen the SD card):

- make a backup of the entire SD card.
- Find / Check that there is the MobileNavigator.exe (curtis stock navi program) on the SD card, not in the unit's memory.
- replace entire stock navigation software with iGo software, keeping original base directory.
- rename iGo software to original software name, i.e. MobileNavigator.exe (making sure it's in the root of the original folder)

If you didn't screw anything up it should load iGo whenever you boot the stock menu and choose navigation option.

Well I just copied the iGo files (which had already MobileNavigator.exe in its root) from the beginning of this thread and it all works fine. At least I think it does. The only confusion for me is TTS, which in my voice menu says Susan TTS v1.0. I though it should have been higher than that. I don't care at this point though. I try the new install with US incl. and speedcamera's correct file when Vlad is done uploading as I didn't include in mine US maps originally ...

Got Igo workin perfectley with all the NA maps, POI, Dem. Still can't get the TTS voices to work but screw it, the normal Kate is fine. Also if u plan on loading all the NA maps and POI get a 4g SD card. Everything won't fit on a 2g card. I had to take out some of the west coast states like california, arizona, utah...Don't think i'll be needin those.

I just installed Splash' setup and everything seems to be OK except TTS. I can get Amy to talk to me but she won't pronounce street names. Kate ignores me completely.

I'll upload the current setup as is to \iGO complete, but I'll keep on working on enhancements. Zipped in 13 files total, ~100MB each.

Thanks Vlad.

Can you confirm what is TTS voicing supposed to do differently than non-TTS. There's some confusion about it on my part.

Text To Speech enables the GPS to pronounce street names instead of just announcing turns. For example, "After two hundred meters, turn right on Bathurst Street". Voice quality is nicer too.

Oh, ok. I thought non-TTS would not even announce turns .... I am really now confused though, because mine says in the settings Susan TTS ..... but it only announces turns, no street names though ... Oh well, not a big deal.

Heads up: I just picked one up today from Warden and Eglinton location. Apparently there are 13 units left when I contacted them, but when I went there the lady at info counter said that the unit I bought may have been the last one.

For those still on the fence, these units are going fast and may be sold out in most of GTA according to RFD forum.

great thread ! and thanks for the hook-up.

just purchased 2 from dixie/dundas... was going to get 3 in total for my buddies... but they are now sold out. :(

AFAIK, ActiveSync is the only way. I dislike it as much as the next guy, but don't see any issues with having it either. You can remove it later if it bothers you.

I didnt use activesync. I just plugged it into my laptop and it recognized it as two new drives, one for the actual GPS (where the Shell.ini can be changed) and the other for the SD. Made a copy of the Shell and then changed it to point to Igo. Downloaded the rest to the SD

You are absolutely right sir, I stand corrected. However, it probably depends on the PC OS version/patch level, so it may not work for some. I'll update the instructions accordingly.

Thanks guys.. tried installing AS and didnt have to use it as HD mentioned.
Ok got a nice WinCED desktop...

Actually, you can toggle between ActiveSync and USB storage mode. Let it boot normally (the one with 4 ICON prompt) and select SYSTEM INFORMATION --> THEN USB OPTIONS. There you can check ACTIVESYNC and STORAGE modes. Regular storage mode is actually faster to transfer files then ActiveSync (much faster).

* Please switch it back to ACTIVESYNC mode after you've uploaded files. I didn't on my first unit and when it bricked I couldn't access the registry.
