Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

are these the same as the 13 RAR files on Vlad's FTP site?

Yes... if you downloaded the iGO software it only included the Canadian maps... These 3 RAR files adds the US maps

Are you using the Mio software?

No, I am direct to iGO. I had the Mio installed and there not much I would use there. Its a neat little toy but I wont be playing tetris or card games on my GPS. I have a laptop and windows mobile on my phone for that lol.

Now I have to load in the US maps and the good female voices and I am happy. I am also having the same problem with the factory voice stating turn left 200 meters, but from what I read it should state: turn left 200 meters at XXXX street.

Only the TTS upgrade will indicate the street. The standard igo8 voices are only direction and distance.

Now I want to know why my master volume isn't working.

if you read the whole thread you will see there's lots of us with the same problem.... If you find a solution post it here please.

Call me anal, but it bothers me quite a bit :). I just hate redundancy - that's the reason why none of my domains begin with "www." :)

I'm working on them, will post as soon as they are ready.

hey Anal, (hehe)

here's a complete clean iGO install.
Includes:

  • English Voice with TTS (I use KATE v 3.3)
  • CANADA and US Maps, Dem, POI, Buildings.
  • SpeedCamera file for East in Canada and US (not the whole world like the original file)
  • English Language

I got rid of everything not needed like Skins and Scheme and cleaned up everything else

Just download, Un-Rar and save it to your SD card.

Files are no logger on the server (for some reason)

thanks man!

Perhaps this has already been mentioned. I modified my sys.txt file and added these lines to it.

[sound]
ding=0
sound_volume=10
voice_volume=20

Made all the sounds in igo8 bearable, still have to change the Curtis shell to mute the taps. Master volume is still not working, voice volume slider is ok. Thats it for tonight, I'm going to sleep.

Good list of Igo8 sys.txt settings here if you want to play with them. .
***Always back up your file***
http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3029

There is a system.ini file in the "save" directory which seems to operate the same as sys.txt except that if you change any options in igo8 it saves them to this system file. I tried muting the os with "os_mute=1" but it muted the whole system. "os_volume=10" was muted aswell but "=11" was the same high volume. Also every time I moved the bar it went full volume and saved it to the system.ini file. Now I'm really packing it in for the night.

So does the 1st MobiPocket change it to the shell? or at least windows base?
Id like to unlock it without active sync

Not every card reader will be able to read/write to SDHC cards .....

your card reader is not SDHC compatible and you probably have to format it.

All the US and Canadian maps fit on a 2 gig card

Kate is still not showing up in the directory for voices to choose

yes it's there... In simple mode you should have 3 pages worth of voices... Go to page 2 and select English (UK) Kate V3.3

I am wondering where do you guys attach the GPS in your car and how you plan to attach it to your bike? I don't like having the GPS on my car windshield ... Is there a bracket one could buy which would allow to kind of stick it into the centre heating vents?

As far as the bike, which bracket is inexpensive and will do the job?

BTW, has anyone's GPS came with a 2GB Kingston card??? Mine did, but apparently not everyone's does (my friend bought 4 of them and only 2 had it). Also when I booted into Windows the internal flash was totally wiped out, all the software was installed on the included SD card.

No card in mine , I did buy 2 i shoul dcheck the other one. gpscity,com has stem mounts for gps for the bike. 30 bucks !!!! I plan on using mine in the tank bag map pocket basically for finding poi though and not necessarily directions. The compass is a nice feature and km/hr too!!!

As an FYI, for those interested in using this on a bike, I gave iGo some testing with the mind set of using it on my bike. The regular direction screen is pretty small and if I'm riding a quick glance will be difficult to follow. I did find a screen that may be useful.

There is an option called itenary (select mid-left display, providing turn-by-turn info). Using the detailed itenary the iGo program gives a 4 line display telling you # of turns to pass and street name for your go onto to reach your destination. The good thing is the text is very large and refreshed frequently. This may be valuable for providing directions while riding.

No card in mine...

I bought 2 as well and no card in either. Some rare buyers are getting the SD card and we suspect it's another version, older version of the Curtis unit. Be careful following the steps posted as they may not apply directly to you.

Suggested steps (keeping in mind I have not seen the SD card):

- make a backup of the entire SD card.
- Find / Check that there is the MobileNavigator.exe (curtis stock navi program) on the SD card, not in the unit's memory.
- replace entire stock navigation software with iGo software, keeping original base directory.
- rename iGo software to original software name, i.e. MobileNavigator.exe (making sure it's in the root of the original folder)

If you didn't screw anything up it should load iGo whenever you boot the stock menu and choose navigation option.
