Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

You have to copy the tts folder and overwrite existing files then reinstall it again.

I did that, but it wouldn't talk to me if I selected a tts voice from the setup menu...

I did get the regular (non-tts) voices to work though, and that is all I need.

I have the unit set up now to start the opening menu, as usual, but when you click navigate it loads iGO8... kicks ***... great value for $47.

Down the three files, unzip them and copy them to a SD Card, plug in and run, you might have to delete the files inside the speedcam folder first, but try it without first.

Nas

Nas,
Thanks a lot for these links, they work great.
This only includes map data for Canada, right?
Any idea where to get the map data for USA?

Cheers

I have the rest of North America maps but they are about 1.2 GB

i think vlads issue was the volume was TOO loud

I have the same problem... The voice promt can be lowered but the "master volume" can't

Hearing problem. Not enough to be designated hearing-impaired, but bad enough for me not to understand quiet talkers or convo in a loud environment in general. There are also some alarm clocks that I just can't hear.

Upload them here so everyone can pick them up:

E-mail me for the password

NOTE: This is an FTP server, so connecting through a web browser such as IE or Firefox might not work. Just get one of the hundreds of free FTP clients and use it instead, it will be faster and easier. Any software that calls itself an FTP client (or has a built in one, like my weapon of choice, the Total Commander) will work with this server.

If you have anything to contribute, please upload it into \Drop new files here! folder and let me know. I'll review/test/repackage it and copy to the appropriate location. Files dropped or changes made in any other folder will be wiped off by synchronization with my master copy.

Please note that there is no guarantee whatsoever for the integrity, completeness, accuracy, usefulness, etc. of any data on this FTP server.

iGO Canada complete can be found here. Thanks to Scarf Face for mirroring.

Thanks Nas and Vlad, I was going to ask about the us maps :)

I've got two of them hacked, but with iGO it couldn't find a gps signal, it works fine if I load the stock software. I did have to delete the speedcamera files to get iGO to load btw.

I also picked up a couple of Kingston 8gb SD cards for $23 each from a shop on Spadina to load up.

Any point to doing this if I've already hacked it the other way?

if you ever screw up the OS and the unit stops wanting to load anything, this will be a last resort :)

I see... will keep that file around then :)

Any idea why I don't seem to get gps signal under iGO?

I would check the settings inside iGo

Settings -> Arrow (next page) -> GPS

make sure that GPS is enabled and the settings are
Port: 1
Baud Rate: 4800

Just got it at Yonge/Davenport CT. This is an in-store special - not all CT stores offer it for the discounted price. That's why it's not in the flyer and the price on the shelf is $100+. The manager was kind enough to do a "price correction" for me, otherwise I wouldn't get it.

The item # is (as was correctly stated here earlier) 099-1981-4

So far (about 30 minutes :) ) I'm quite impressed with the look and feel, as well as the accessories. Everything you need to use it in a car or at home is there - you'll have to figure out the motorcycle mount yourself. I have no idea how a touch screen this small would behave with gloves on, but I don't care either as I have another GPS for the bike (Garmin E-trex Vista HcX).

Right after this post I hustled over to the CT at Yonge and Davenport and got the last one. Inventory shows 20 but only one was actually in the store (or so they told me ) Guy took it right out of the display. Total cost $54.23. Thanks dude.

I just went out an picked one up (for now). Doesnt seem too bad. Its a tad slow but meh... its cheap.

Oh, btw the CDN tire store I went too had over 20 units sitting on the shelf in front of me.

Just picked one of theses up today, they had like 20 on display. But i'm in Windsor though, so anyone in Windsor go the the CT off Huron Church. Very nice unit for the price. In the process of modding it right now.
Question: Can I load the IGo through the usb cord or do I have to put it on a sd card?
