Has anyone else been sick more than normal this winter?

I went years without coming down with anything, including Covid. Then last winter (23/24) was hit with a stomach flu bug that lasted a few days. This past winter season I had two separate flu like illnesses. I'm fairly confident that one of them came from one of our grandchildren, but the other cause is unknown. The last two winters I got a flu shot and that might have lessened the misery, even though the virus still got me.

Allergy season has come early . Two weeks of serious booger mode so far . Up to date on my flu shots and Covid vax and looking for my shingles and pneumonia shots . I got my yellow and dengea fever shots and the malaria anti venom four years ago and they are good for a decade . My witch doctor , my local MP and my spirit animal , the tree sloth are all aligned on this .

This past fall/winter both my wife and I got very sick, hung on for months.
Before this were we rarely ever sick.

I've noticed this more and more amongst friends and coworkers this winter. Nasty combination of crap going around I guess.

I took today off work after struggling through the last 2. Got up this morning with my alarm after sleeping almost 11 hours and still felt crappy. Slept 14 hours on Tuesday night.

And, yeah, Shingles. I should probably go and get the shots for that and ward that off preemptively as well - my mother had it once long ago and I remember it was excruciating, and given the amount of stress I've been harbouring in the last month or so, well, that's the last thing I need right now.

Had a cold at the beginning of February. Nasty one, but just a cold. Most of the symptoms went away after a week but I've had congestion and the constant need to clear my throat since family day. The doctor told me that the cold virus this year is hanging on for longer than usual and symptoms lasting 6-8 weeks are common in their clinic. Today is a bit better, so maybe it's on it's way out...

I was down yesterday picking up something for my bike, happen to take a walk around the lot and noticed that they had the land cleared, didn't ask for what. but now i know. Thanks

I drive past it twice a day.

Mr. Kanoehead is an idiot.

Oh, and they're putting low income housing in beside the Honda dealership. Semi isolated, I suppose.

Mr. Canoehead is an idiot , my good friends daughter dated him and lived with him just prior to his run up to election. She did get to party with JT and Sophie at the cottage , and we've met . He's an idiot . I had to leave Milton so I'm Oakville west now with Anita, lucky me.
The big field beside the Honda dealer is the perfect place for low income, halfway between the hospital and the jail.

wife has the current plague and cough and yak up yellow goo. Im trying to avoid her but since I work from home a lot and she retired , shes here all the time ...

I feel like I’ve been sick way more often than normal.

3 kids in the house so one is always patient 0 and the cycle continues.

That week when the whole family had norovirus…that was fun times for sure.

I've been mostly good. But I still practice a little bit of social distancing, mostly not trying to stand next to idiots who are close talkers. No need. Also good hygiene practices can go a long way. Lots of hands washing after going out, no touching of face etc. It's amazing how stupid people are and forget what was hammered away for 2 years or so during the pandemic, is totally forgotten.

This morning alone I witnessed these bad behaviours. I went to pick up something at the grocery store, waiting in line, I'm next, start to put down my stuff, and the cashier wipes her nose with her hand. Grab my stuff, leave the line and go to the next cashier... fuking same thing happens... yeah yeah call me a gemaphobe all you like. People don't get basic hygiene.

The other thing I did was open my windows a bit for the winter. Lots of fresher air for the winter and not too stuffy or dry. Seemed to have helped.

I deal with gerd and take medication that helps somewhat. Here in Costa Rica, I'm thinking that the awful coughing might not be gerd. It's gone. No coughing, no burning. Climate?

Big change in your diet while away?

That is good. Coughing and travellers diarrhea is not a good combo. 😂

Bad chest cold (bronchitis?) for about 2 weeks, with side of splitting head ache and fever for couple of days. I can't remember the last time I had a headache. It was one hell of a combo!

I've had what the KGH calls "the 100 day cough" and on week 7 now. It's nowhere near as bad as the first two weeks, but I'm still coughing up a cheesesteak hoagie at least twice a day.

I 100% believe that climate impacts the body/health. I have severely dry skin and i need to use products or my skin will crack here. 1 week + in the Caribbean and dryness is gone, never to be seen.
