The non trailer trailer

Just mentioned this in the dirt bike thread and thought maybe I should post it up here as well.

I keep thinking of a "non trailer" trailer. The front wheel would be mounted in a reciever mounted front wheel chock and then the rear wheel fits into a two wheeled dolly strapped to the rear tire. A couple tie downs from the handle bars to bumper end points stabilizes the load. Then once at the trail head you throw the dolly in the car and off you go. Very little tongue weight, no tire tire wear, and no large trailer to store. Can we get the boys in the lab working on this? Or has anyone seen such a unit?

These were available ages ago but I guess never caught on. Both they type with and without a dolly for the rear wheel. The dolly had to be attached to the chock to prevent the rear wheel from swinging in turns.

Oh, there's one that tows from the rear wheel now:

Sacrificial front tire and wheel bearing solution ?
only did that with the rear wheel before.

Does this not just become a trailer at this point? Requiring working lights and a plate?

This is almost exactly what I'm thinking. I think a homemade version is very doable.

Back in the 70's i used a setup like this to tote my 123 Cota on the front bumper of my Dodge D100.

I used the same thing on the back bumper of my '68 Buick Wildcat convertible to move my Honda TL125 trials bike around. Very light bike and easily lifted in place, front wheel first, then rear.

ooooo TL125  with stock exhaust, perfect bike to sneak up on people walking in the woods.
