Bluetooth battery monitor

Just priced out a replacement battery for my BMW, it's 80$ or I could upgrade to a 90$ one. At 40$ more to install something that tells me what I already know seems like too little too late, I think I can do without this thing sending me a text message to alert me I just broke down somewhere. Unless you can you make it call my wife and ask her very nicely to fetch me some 20$ jumper cables.

I have a hard time finding a good use case for this.

If you drive/ride frequently, the battery should be fine. If you want to monitor, a voltmeter plugged into the lighter socket is a lot cheaper and doesnt run your battery down when off.

If your vehicle is not started often, plug it into a battery tender and it will be ready to play.

The best situation I have is a boat where it may not be used frequently and power is not readily available. Still not a great plan though as it stole power during the entire downtime that could have been used to start it.

Ditto. OP, what's your goal here? I could see using this on an RV or a boat or something for the "house" batteries (the ones that run the accessories), but not sure I'd find any value on a motorcycle.

Also, have you checked Amazon? I suspect these can be had for far less there.

it is dirt cheap compared to an RV or boat monitor, but I dont want to go looking for my phone to figure out battery charge

If it immediately locates your motorcycle anywhere in the world at no additional charge I want one.

I’m waiting for the new Apple tracking tag thing. The advantage will be that unlike Tile or TrackR people won’t need to have the app open and running to provide crowdsource location data - anyone with an iPhone that ends up within range will provide a location hit as the tracking service will likely be baked into the OS at the core level. Will be a game changer if it lives up to expectations.

Well tile uses bluetooth for that purpose. It is an interesting model. It still has holes in coverage obviously but the more popular a location is, the more likely you are to get a ping.
Only if someone has that app running. It is still limited by Bluetooth range. We are not talking GPS here.

That's for sure, it's just a fancy short range wireless volt meter.

I'd say put the $40 towards a Scorpio 2-way alarm or something, the radio fob tells you battery voltage when you arm/disarm the alarm. The added benefit is of course having an alarm to scare off inconsiderate people and knowing if someone bumped into or sat on your bike while you were gone.
