DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For 28 years, motorcycle enthusiasts have come to Daytona Beach in October for Biketoberfest® (Oct. 15-18, 2020) to enjoy the beautiful Florida fall weather and miles of scenic rides.

This year the weather is expected to be beautiful, the rides will be scenic, and due to COVID-19 some things will be different.

On September 9, city commissioners in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, two of the many cities within Volusia County where Biketoberfest® activities are held, discussed whether to issue special event permits to merchants for such activities as outdoor concerts and food and merchandise vendors. Permits in Ormond Beach were approved. In Daytona Beach commissioners felt that now was not the right time to approve special use permits.

“Safety is paramount,” said Lori Campbell Baker, executive director of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “We know these were difficult decisions for the cities and the merchants. We know some riders will still come and we look forward to welcoming them back. For those planning farther ahead, we hope to see them next year at Daytona Bike Week’s 80thAnniversary March 5-14 and at 2021 Biketoberfest® October 14-17.”

While the number of vendors may be less at some locations, local businesses – on Main Street, at Destination Daytona, in Midtown, and around Daytona International Speedway – will be open.

“Our hotels, restaurants, attractions, and retail shops are open. Our beautiful, expansive beach is open. For those who decide to travel to our area, we want them to visit responsibly and safely,” said Campbell Baker.

Black Bike Week has been cancelled

Myrtle Beach has disallowed it
organizers agreed and are telling folks to not go

Similar stuff happening here in Canada when people looking to let loose get together in large groups! Not necessarily motorcycle related but same potential end result.

lol....yep. I drove past the pier a few times before it was closed down and at the start of term last week you’d never have guessed a pandemic was on.

Someone is tracking COVID cases in schools in Ontario. There have been 13, 9 staff and 5 students so far. Locations in Ottawa mostly followed by Mississauga and others. Some schools in Ottawa opened early apparently.

Is it "schools" or the Uni's in Ottawa that are causing the issues there? I expected the Uni's just due to traditional frosh week celebrations? There's 2 Uni's there so that's a bunch of potential party goers.

Supposedly the Black Bike Rally was canceled due to covid 19 concerns.
But the Myrtle Beach Fall Bike Rally for white Harley Davidson riders has not been canceled. This year the Fall Bike Rally is slated for Sept. 28-Oct. 4, 2020.

I guess only bikers of a certain persuasion spread covid 19.

It could also be that one group is predominantly of a political persuasion (Trump) that doesn't "get it", while the other group is more diverse age-wise and politically and understands the downside. Essentially - the organizers of black bike week are just smarter than the other guys.

I don't get it  What is the theory behind black bike week & do I need a black bike to attend,
or do I need to wait for red bike week.
