If you have to ask, you can't afford it

How many car museums are there compared to motorcycle museums?

It's a different class of people for bikes I think.

I wonder about the reaction if someone showed up at a local ride or Timmies with one of those bikes. 1964 Benelli GP 250 vs blinged out HD Fat Boy.

Looking at those bikes makes me happy. The kijiji cafe racer butchers need to look at more of the real thing before they continue to destroy donor bikes.

Agree 100%
I think vintage bikes are junked when "modified" in bobbers, cafe, etc.
I feel much the same, but at least they're being ridden.

Go look at the Barber museum, and it's like a hotwheels collection, that's never been used.

Wheels through time, the bikes look like they've been ridden hard.

Both are on my bucket list, along with the Barber Vintage Festival .
Maybe next year or the year after .

That '74 Ducati Super Sport is a stunner, as is the '53 Matchless. That's a long list...

Barber made a metric crap ton of money in another industry and really liked powersport, plowed his fortune into a living museum. I was there the weekend they had all the Brittens running and on track , 6 Brittens in one spot was something to see.

There are a half dozen motorcycle museums in the US and if the planet is safe again a dozen in Europe, it makes for an interesting stop on any trip. I went to Vegas a couple years for the Bonhams classic auctions ( when I thought I had more money than I did) , its really an experience to see these bikes , 200 in one day, get sold and appreciate the value (or not LOL) .
Seeing an Adler that some guy spent 9yrs and 17K restoring sell for $3,200.00 , and a Brough disassembled in a crate non running with missing parts sell for $72,000. is an eye opener

Lots of people now donate expensive bikes to the museums.

It's a matter of getting them to that point. I'm sure that some have donated bikes to Jay Leno, as well.

Donations to museums can net you a really nice tax reciept as opposed to a capital gain tax when you sell in many countries (US) .

In Annapolis the naval academy has a fleet of ex race yachts, toys for cadets. Build cost 2mil, resale 12 yrs later, 250K, but tax reciept from the Navy 500K value!
