motorcycle dash cam

I have one for the front and one for the rear. Virb basic. Both detachable if needed. However, I always park near other bikers..

I don't have my bike yet but have been looking at the Akaso V50, which can be removed when not in use -the big question is: has cam footage been successfully used in insurance claims, or have witness / police reports been enough?

Both State Farm back in the day and now Certas/Desjardins adjusters were receptive to discussion when I didn’t have any witnesses to two separate incidents (one side swipe and one yellow light left turn in front of me) and found me 0% at fault. In our discussions, they both said a dash cam would have made it easier to plead my case. And yes, I do have one for each of my cars now now. Still figuring out which to get for the bikes.

At least with cars, yes it does make a differences with insurance claims and police report.

Personally I don't want removable cameras cause I'll either forget to charge it or forget to take it off... Hence I'm looking at once with a small camera that people won't really pay attention to or even see unless their looking for it.

I would be going permanent mount too. Preferably in an inconspicuous location ( ram air duct, in a fake driving light, etc).

for the front I was thinking of putting it in the ram air duct as well. just haven't found the best spot for the rear yet so it won't be blocked or block the licence plate.

My cameras are very visible, one mounted on the tail bag. When cagers are aware of it they seem to back off. Good or bad? Your opinion?

Good while on the bike, bad when you get off. I'd be inclined to add some fake security cameras with the small red led in conspicuous locations and the good hd+ camera tucked in somewhere.

Not that I am anal. Honest. I always park near fellow bikers and where I can see the bike.

Personally i like to do that whenever i can.

side topic, curious, would you guys park in a spot if another bike is parked there already? (of course it wouldn't be blocking them from leaving or too close to them.

Nope. Never ever selfish. Near bikes in a normal parking spot.

Not unless I know them well, and they don't mind having bikes parked next to theirs. Some people worry that another bike might fall on theirs.

I had a cheapo Amazon dashcam on my previous bike on a crossbar between the front forks. Had to remember to always plug the 12v plug into a cheap socket thing I had connected to the battery though and unless you were looking over the bike real close you'd never see it. If anyone wanted to steal it meh. Just $50.

Didn't have a dash cam, I had a GoPro, but I purchased, (not cheap, about $100 USD), a modified, abut still waterproof case and wiring harness, that essentially made my GoPro a wired camera. No more concerns about battery life. Then it was set to an endless loop, so when the SD card got filled it just overwrote it.

Had that setup for 3 years and NEVER took the GoPro, off, it was handlebar mounted, behind my windshield. Never had an issue with anyone playing with it. The wiring harness was well concealed and removal would have taken enough time for someone to notice. At night the bike cover was locked via a HEAVY 3/4" cable, which meant no one could access the camera.

A few do/have @hedo2002 @PrivatePilot i think.

Although chance of theft is probably the biggest reason most won't.
