Motorcycling trends: by the numbers

And off base in my view .....no mention of adventure at all.

How is motorcycle racing interest related to general motorcycling.

HD has painted itself into a demographic corner ...

And somehow they represent "disinterest in motorcycling"??...give me a break

Attend some races (all kinds, there are lots) and check out the parking lot.Everything is there. An ADV ride doesn't have to be a GSA with 10k in farkle ****.

The whole thing is based on some guy's personal theories based on Google searches.
I could just as easily theorize that a decrease in Google searches indicates that more people are out riding than sitting at home doing Google searches.

I liked the article, everything the author said seems plausible to me. I do not think they're making spurious correlations as the two things they compare each time are reasonably related. It is very interesting to me to see the impact of the "Great Recession" on search frequency

Its an interesting read , and ONE way of interpreting the data.
My mom is a huge motorsports fan, leans heavily toward 'stock' car events , Cascar and Nascar. My mom does not own a computer, shes never done a google search in her life.
I watch UK superbike and MotoGP, loved motocross twenty years ago but havn't attended an event in twenty years. I don't google much ever, there are a zillion links in media articles, somebody else does my heavy lifting , and I read about bikes nearly daily.

There are a lot of metrics missing in that article IMO

There are a lot of new trials riders lately but as many others have left. lol Observed Trials riding never makes anybody's statistic list because 90% of the time the people doing the study or article are clueless about motorcycles to begin with.

By the numbers :/ the 1960's were the start of it the 1970's were the absolute best!, the 1980's were a lot of fun, the 1990's people hibernated, y2K the technology really came of age, the last 19 years things got crazy expensive because of a strong US$ and stupid insurance rates, very few made the effort to race or even go watch for lots of crap reasons.

Bombardier could probably turn it around for Canada if they were to jump into a full range of electric motorcycles and pump up some sponsor money for racing or something crazy like that ;) anybody here got an in with Bombardier?

Anybody here got an in with Bombardier?

A lot of my tax dollars went to the Waterloo LRT system that is 2 years late (so far). If Bombardiers head was on fire,i wouldn't piss in it's ear.

Can you think of any other Canadian company that could even come close to doing it?

If you drink while you type, ok. If you don't , consider starting

Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) is not the same company as the one that builds the planes and trains.

Yes but I wager they have an agreement to share technology information and experience making electric trains and jet planes looks pretty good on the resume.
... anybody here old enough to remember that they did at one time make a range of world class motorcycles complete with a dealership network :laughing1: that was in the 1970's, back when snowmobiles were still a thing and every rural household had one.

Who cares if it's built by a Canadian company. It's 2 years late and millions over budget.

I read the linked information and took it to indicate that consumer interest in organized, professional, racing is trending downward. Essentially confirming what people involved have been saying for a long time.

the HD vs. Indian thing didn't indicate SFA to me as there are plenty of other indicators that the large, overstuffed cruiser market is softening at a rapid rate.

As for the assertion that Can-Ams were "world-class", as much as I have a fondness for them I'll defer to the opinions of the many I knew who actually owned and therefore occasionally rode one.

Yes, I'm old enough by far. Had a friend with a dual sport Can Am 250 dirt bike, nice bike and certainly more capable than my Honda MT250.

I think the article re google analytics indicates search stats for those specific terms. Whether those terms are an accurate indicator of a particular trend(s) is the real question.

Because if it is produced here you won't be buying Euro Asian Scandinavian product, paying for it in US dollars and subjected to import duty and because Canadian based production puts more money in the coffers of your own country to produce it :|
would you flush the company because of that news story, I read there is way more to it.
:I seen them running on their test track, they look cute.

Reminder that Bombardier has shifted some of the production of these disasters out to Mexico

Maybe, but looking at Toronto streetcars that are years late with significant quality control and rework issues due to poor manufacturing processes the full life cycle cost of these streetcars, including initial purchase cost and long term maintenance expense, will very likely offset any initial in-country procurement advantage. I predict these new streetcars will be very prone to breakdowns, very expensive to maintain and won't last anywhere near their planned lifecycle. Globally, virtually all new mass transit contracts are going to other vendors and Bombardier is performing very poorly.

I took a look at the story, was interesting. But I think I didn’t see mentioned was motorcycle training enrolment. Or new license holders. These numbers could have been analyzed as well
