M1 license extention

Hi everyone,

My M1 is set to expired June 13. I did the safety course over the weekend (May 27) but failed the test. I am hoping to be tested again on June 10. But if that doesn't happen, I'd like to extend the M1 before it expires. I cannot find any information online, as all of them talks about extension after M1 has expired.

Does anyone know the cost of M1 extension and how long it would be good for?

I didn't even know there was such a thing as an extension for your M1.

But I think I remember reading before that once your M1 expires once, you can get your M1 again and upgrade immediately to a M2 since you've already passed the mandatory 60 day wait period - am I imagining this?

Correct there is NO extension, you will have to reapply for an M1, but you can upgrade as soon as you pass the test. This is a good example of why it is a good idea to get an M1 when the weather is nice enough to get in your testing, (and possible retesting), before it expires.

I think you have to take the test again once it expires. You can extend your M2 when transitioning to your M license.

Good luck on June 10th.

yeah you have to write it again, although i *think* its cheaper to do it the second time.

It wasn't cheaper when I had my m1 to re-write.

I wrote my m1 about 5 times in total (weird right?). I actually had my dirtbike street plated, and since I wasn't taking passengers or taking it on the highway, I'd just renew it when it expired and be good for a few more months.
I was also a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to pass my m2 test with the bike I had...it was definitely one of those "grey area" kinda deals :)

I wouldn't worry about it expiring, just cough up the couple extra bucks and be done.

Yea it was definitely bad timing on my part. From the general consensus of the comments, looks like the answer is to re-write the M1. No biggie though

if you failed the safety course, then you probably shouldn't be riding.

Some people take longer to get the hang of the friction zone, and/or looking where you want to go,
others have previous experience, which makes it a bit of a mish-mash.
