Group of Motorcyclists wanted...

Re: Well, this will help the motorcycle image in Toronto!

Be careful what you wish for. It's what they'll do to fix the issue that worries me. If they can't get the goofs, they'll get go after everyone, probably with a law. Riding in groups of more than 5 will be illegal or some such ridiculous authoritarian decree. Make no mistake, this won't be allowed to go on. They're going to fix the problem, this year, next year, and none of us will like the solution.

I thought there was something that could already be used here? Something about needing a permit from the city if you were planning a group ride/drive. Not sure what the repercussions are for not bothering to get the permit.

Meanwhile, natives blockade a road in Caledonia and the OPP sits on their hands, too **** scared to do anything. A bunch of dufus bikers clog up a road for 20 minutes of stunting and whoa nelly, out comes the police spokesheads and legislators waving their arms screaming "won't someone think of the children?!?"

All good points. Not that I agree with the dufus bikers. However, your principal, I agree with. I remember the Oka crisis. Plus a group of religious people stopping the QEW. Again there the OPP did nothing. Enter religion, blm, bigots and that is a good excuse for The OPP to do nothing. Sit back and watch.
I think I will spend my day climbing a Crane.

Yep, it's picking the low-hanging fruit. It's easy for them -- and politicians -- to stand in front of every camera they can find to make all sorts of political noise and public safety pronouncements about a bunch of bad ol' hooligans on bikes but give them something with a bit more religious or socioeconomic gristle -- <insert group 'X'> blockading some major highway or secondary road, for example -- to it and they won't touch it.

Hypocrites.

Absolutely. No question you are 100% correct. Well put.

Am I the only one thinking that the first post should read: "For my wall!"

As much as I hate stone chips on my vehicles, does anyone have a hookup for gravel trucks? Need to put them on standby for the next mob ride....
the number of times sand or gravel came close to low side me on roads up north (locals dump them in corners) even though i gather youre not serious...its a life hazard even if you go at the posted speeds.

Even on some of the local twisties. Not too far North of here.

I suspect that is more urban myth than reality tho there was a couple of verified cases.

Gravel comes out of tires on corners as the tread flexes...River Road is bad for that

Rain also leaves gravel in the corners

Basically you generally have to be prepared for some corner debris ... depends on the design of the roads and if there are gravel roads coming out to them and if the camber is smooth to wash off debris.

Some roads in Ohio beg to be blitzed as very little gravel others like the triple nickel have gotchas.
Wykoff run is nasty for gravel - 144 not so much.

yeah i know it naturally occurs... but with some of the roads having been dry for days (no rain) and the way denivellation worked, and when looking at the dirt/sand already existing in the corner being completely different from what's on the road... and ONLY OCCURING in corners for a few km at a time, makes you wonder.

And i'm talking accumulation of sand, not just a dusting of sand, it's not like they were trying to make it subtle at all.

as I say ...there are some cases but generally you have to assume issues on blind corners....Back of the Dragon is nasty for it ...blind corners and gravel dribbling down from the steep faces...takes away the fun.

Too bad the OP hooligans are not on those roads....weed out a few ;)

these guys don't ride north of the 407 because there's no one out there to watch "the show"

There's a difference between a protest and a bunch of idiots making noise just for their own fun.

...for a few minutes before they zoom off as opposed to other protests & bloackages that can last for days or months...

If the ride organizer(s) planted a flag and a burning barrel in the centre lane and declared they're not moving until certain motorcycle-related grievances are settled -- unfair insurance rates and discriminatory and collusional practices in the insurance industry; laws that prevent us from defensive riding (e.g. filtering and lane-splitting illegal here) etc -- it goes from a bunch of idiots making noise for fun to a "protest". Or not so much? I bet the cops wouldn't see it that way and would strong-arm & water-cannon their way to the flag and rip it down and arrest anyone they could baton.

If a group of LGTBQ(xxx...) did the same thing for pet grievances of theirs? Not a bunch of idiots making noise; people with real grievances. Do we allow this?

If any identifiable group 'X' wants their cause to get attention they should be allowed to block any highway or railway and the police and government should step-off?

Selective enforcement leads to slippery-slopes and that's going to lead to a lot of blocked highways, oil & gas pipelines and rail lines if anyone with something to "protest" is allowed into the club.

I think what's bothering me is not so much the other protests per se but the hyperbolic bloviating of the cops demonizing motorcyclists and the scale and scope of their response here when contrasted against the tippy-toe level of inaction elsewhere.

No one should be "allowed" to block a major highway, but at least a protest has some legitimate merit, not these idiots.

You can protest lots of places that get attention. Blocking a major transit corridor (highway or railline) should not ever be permitted. Draw a clear line in the sand that the behaviour is unacceptable and the repercussions hurt deeply.

I'm for this as well.

Free time is something that's disappeared for me. Riders, LGBT, feminazi, or whatever are all lumped together for me if they're inconveniencing everyone else by ****ing up traffic flow and therefore ****ing with my free time.

Re: Well, this will help the motorcycle image in Toronto!

from looking around, ride of the 6ix seems to be just a group that participates. The ride is apparently called Blocko. Try searching for that term.

this is Blocko 2017

It's wrong. Blocko was an organized event, with the police conveying us to the event location. The ride that caused this **** is called Ride of the 6ix. Look up on instagram

Agreed, but they do shut down the DVP and Gardner for charity runs, etc.
