The only out should be if someone else would step up and admit they were the operator at the time of offence.

This was funny. It was apoplectic.
It's interesting to see the people condemning these riders/stunters to the nth degree.
I don't agree with what they did however as someone pointed out, if insurance rates were not ridiculous then there would be a better sense of responsibility.
The laws are so extreme that the only option you are leaving is run...even if you stay and win a future trial...you still do not get your fees back and the mark on your insurance record is there...see the problem. Where is reasonable in the equation?
What has changed from then to now?
1. Youtube, social media, easy to show off, plan and meet, easy to learn how to do the stunts/ride.
2. cheap portable cameras, instant live streaming
3. living at home with more disposable income to spend on one's self
4. stunt driving laws (bill 172?)
5. the police's seeming us against them attitude today
6. self entitlement generation
7. 'kids' will be kids
There has and always will be the rebel element.
These riders have a forum to show off, and to do it cheap.
They will do what they are going to do, there will be a new wave every year.
As the adults in the room, we can either channel this problem or take the usual moan and groan at the 'kids' approach.
They used to have their fun in parking lots and industrial areas but now even that is illegal. We can keep trying to apply the pressure all we want, they will just gang up and rebel, while filming it as their homage of sticking it to the man.
How is the moan and groan approach working?
My prediction, their next year's ride will be LARGER. There is more of them and they see the media attention they got.
This is not new, they do it in New York and other states where the bikers just run wild and take over the streets.
All they have to do is hide their plates, wear black gear, tinted visor...and you have no idea who is riding the bike...see instant invisibility within a larger group for protection.
Well they brought awareness to riding motorcycles and the dangers of it...as they say, there is no such thing as bad press.
Remember, they already dropped the hammer on riders with bill 172...these riders pretty much just proved that is not a deterrent.
Until we are realistic and build bridges and allow/create outlets for them, the problem will continue. We finally made skateboard parks...problem 99% solved.
Just soften the laws and leave them alone to stunt in the EMPTY industrial parking lots and things will balance out.
Or we can keep on trucking with the us against them attitude to try and crush their spirit...how do we think that will work...remember, clearly these stunters have the X gene for high risk which provides them the rush...so this is a sport to them.
We have legislated ourselves right into the corner...even if we wanted to have stunt day on the DVP/parking lots, we can't provide the outlet because of liability issues. They are going to do what they are going to do, no different than drug users (needles) for which we are now creating safe injection sites to deal with that problem... We need reasonable solutions.
And before the usuals here jump on my case...you will have proven my point with that approach.
