Port Dover: What is the draw?

It's a nice ride out if you take the lake. I find the **** show entertaining. Probably see some titties too. Get some pretty good perch on a bun. Keep riding to turkey point/long point. Come back in the evening and watch all the wasted guys get arrested trying to ride home.

There is nothing amazing about it, it's more of a fun people watching experiment. I wouldn't go by myself.

Goddamnit, nobody said anything about perch on a bun!

I've visited Dover once last August via car. Had the perch on a bun. You didn't miss anything, it's a lot more bun then perch. It's a nice town though and I wouldn't mind riding there sometime this summer, but without the pirates.

yearrrrrrrrr... me hearties
actually, Port Perry Timmies is bit of a pirate meetup. Ive seen some even bring their deck chairs there. I usually ride past - DQ is a better option - Ice Cream

The route we took today was actually really fun, lots of twisty roads and an awesome (but a little cold) ride along the lake. Like everyone else said, it's a walk around and look at stuff kinda deal, with the decent food and occasional novelty purchases. The ride there and back is the real fun part! I enjoyed meeting and talking to different riders and keeping up with the big bikes on my little 300.

Exactly.

Went with friends. Saw neat stuff, had a cheap lunch (honestly, the cries about overpriced food is unwarranted...most stuff was extremely reasonable), saw the sights and the weird people mixed in amongst the crowds, had lots of laughs, bought a few small things (although I agree much of the stuff is not worth buying, but there were some gems), ate some ice cream, saw the expected smattering of hooligans and arsebags on both sportbikes and cruisers alike (Although the scales tipped in favor of hooligans on sportbikes) and generally had a great day under the sun.

Yeah, there was some traffic in and out. If traffic defines your day as enjoyable or not, Dover is not for you.

If the ladies are older than me that's a No Go!

Just got back from PD13. Its a hoot. Saw the naked/thong guy directing traffic, had a pizza slice and drink for 5 bucks and live music. What was really fun was looking at the thousands of bikes parked and some rather flamboyant characters . Its amazing what individuals do to make what they ride their own. Most are Harleys, but you see everything under the sun. It was also enjoyable being part of the bike train. We started off with 5 guys, the closer we got the bigger the train. About 20km before town, bikes as far as you could see in front of you and in back. Its also cool how the cops only let motorcycles in the town, you have check points and the cars are filtered out. All the thousands of people that attend have a common passion, bikes and riding. Was also fun checking out the Hells Angels tent, holly crap do those guys look scary.

This was the only Friday 13th for the year.

Ok, so I need some help here. What is the draw of Port Dover on Friday the 13th? I have never been and actually want to be interested in it but all I seem to read on here is complaints about traffic/parking/accommodations/gas and I really don't understand the draw. Looking at road maps of the area, the roads look relatively uninteresting. If I get a day to ride (doesn't happen very often), I'm more likely to head north to the Kawarthas/Muskokas. So can someone help me out? What is it that draws so many people to PD on the 13th?

Come out with our group next Friday the 13th, the run is fun lots of great roads. We had a Ducati guy with us, and he loved it!

It once a year (some years not, some years twice) but once a year, so you have the rest of the year to run the Kawarths and Muskoka. This is an experience that photo's do not do justice. You see some wild bikes, and so many people.

It is the closest thing to Daytona Bike week, and its in Ontario.

Go once, on a fun route (not hwy 6!!!) and check it out. Worst case you will say it was interesting. I did not understand the draw either, but now I go every time, especially since its a Friday (most people are at work and your out riding, its makes it even better!)

Thanks for the reply. Like I said before, I want to be interested but then a lot of the feedback seems negative. The next Friday the 13th that seems reasonable for riding is in 2018 (I know ppl ride there all year, that won't be me) so I have a long time to think it over lol.

There's a lot of really interesting bikes that you're not likely to see elsewhere. Mostly Harleys, but also a good variety of other kinds of bikes.

On the other side, there are a lot of typical Harley types, with some saggy mammaries flopping in the wind (men and women)

Up to you if it's worth it, I try to go every time. Missed this year though

If you want something a little larger and a decent ride away check this one out http://www.americade.com . It's at Lake George NY. Nice days ride through the Adirondacks to get there. June 7-11. The accommodation will likely be a **** show, plenty of camping nearby in the Adirondack though I might see about a visit. The town itself is fun, redneck central at night with confederate flag draped souped up pick ups squealing tires on the main strip. Great fun to people watch.

I went yesterday as well. We have a house rented in Niagara for 4 days so we stopped in at PD13. Lots of neat bikes and if you're social you'll have a great time meeting characters and hearing stories. We stayed around 3hrs and met some great people. Lots of fun roads on our way there and back.
