Friendly racing against an SV650, in Mexico.

So I met up with a guy with a blue second gen SV and we thought it would be interesting to take a ride down to mexico and run em on some country roads.

3 dig races, FZ took it by 2-4 lengths at the 1/8th and was pulling away rapidly at the end. 2 roll ons from 30 and 60, SV got the jump on the first and stayed ahead for maybe 50m's and then fell behind, second pull was hit perfectly, the SV grabed a length off the hit and then fell behind on the next gear change and was behind from there out.

It was fun but i gotta say for all the talking SV riders do I was surprised it wasn't closer. I'm quite sure I had a couple pounds on him as well. The bike was in good shape and sounded nice so I don't think there was anything wrong with it. I've heard SV riders claim it was faster so i just wanted to share my experience with y'all. Happy hunting!

Excellent thread. Would read again.

You know that SV stands for slow vehicle don't you?

IBTL.

Cycle World tested a 2009 FZ6R and got a quarter mile of 12.26@107MPH out of it.

They also looked at an SV650 and it ran an 11.99@108MPH.

Sounds like they're essentially the same and any differences boil down to the fat-assedness of the riders, conditions, alignment of the planets etc.

You were in Mexico?

It's illegal to race here, can't blame him for going all the way to mexico, it's where i do my stunting.

Run both through the twisties, not the dragstrip. I think the sv has more to offer on a twisty section than on the straights.

...bragging about beating an sv in a drag is like bragging about ur huge 4" penis

The dude went to Mexico to race a blue SV? And he's a little chunkified?

Is that what's going on?
