Yikes Yamaha! WTH?

No, for fit and form I'm sure a demo ride would be fine, but there is no way to really explore a machine like this in a controlled demo.

thats exactly how i felt... the bike just didnt impress me but i really think it was because we were in a group ride with a bunch of new riders. there was probably only 1 other experienced rider who was 2 bikes back on a R1.
at the end of the ride the guy on the red Yamaha bolt tipped it into the trailer. (got it on camera lol) no injuries or damage.

i really need to take this bike out without supervision and play around on it. it just didnt even feel fast at all.

I've never done a demo ride in which the let you push the machine even a bit.

I did a demo ride with Honda once years ago and stayed at the back on a VFR1200, fell back a bit to "catch up" to the group just a bit so I could feel SOME of the bikes power and promptly got scolded for it.

I wasn't a noob rider at the time either with 10 years under my belt at that point.

I have stopped demo rides since

Really??? What bike are you used to if the FZ-10 didn't feel fast to you? I just demoed the FZ-10 and it was incredibly fast. Incredible amounts of torque, makes the FZ-09 feel like a 250. Which riding mode did you use during the demo?

Where are people doing demo rides? Head out of the city to one of the less busy days and I have had luck with stretching the legs. Prior to HTA 172, theoretically on a demo ride west of the GTA, the fast bikes (including a rider from the manufacturer) had a few sections where speeds might have exceeded the speed limit by more than 100 km/h. If you go to something like Rock the red at honda, of course they have everyone locked down, you are in populated areas and there are a crap ton of riders.

Demo rides are stupid. Get into a formation and ride slowly with a bunch of other people for a few minutes. It tells you nothing. Same reason i'll never buy a car if the dealer insists on coming with me for the test drive.

Youre better off test riding bikes off of kijiji if you can find a friendly (desperate) seller that doesnt mind you taking the bike out for a bit, just make sure they still have insurance on it.

SO, what do you think?

seating position on the FZ-10 was nice, i found i kept putting the heel of my boot on the exhaust, handle bars for me felt about a inch too high(im short though), mirrors almost useless...just ergo stuff bothered me and lack of adjustment on the clutch lever... a aftermarket set of CRG or Pazzo, slightly lower bars and maybe playing with the mirrors and that would all be sorted out no problem.
I would like to see the rearsets in a bit more of a aggressive position, im sure someone will make some aftermarket ones that are adjustable very soon. The seat was hard like my Corbin but it was comfortable, i had about 40 min in the saddle of it and was fine with 1 exception, i would have liked to be able to sit a little further back (and im not tall...5'9" ish). i dont think i would change out the seat till i gave it a really good chance and made other ergo adjustments that i have already mentioned.

i really wanted to love this bike but im just not sure. coming from a 09 600rr with a fair amount of mods (bazzaz z-bomb, bazzaz f-fi, bazzaz z-afm, full exhaust, k&n, block off plates, gearing...etc...), i honestly feel that my bike pulls harder than the FZ-10, at least up to the 100km/hr point.
i need to get 1 out to actually test in a different format, not a group ride. i had 1 stretch of road that the group split on because of a red light and i happened to be first in line so i was able to give it a little extra smack once it hit green but not much.

someone else i was talking to was complaining about the suspension of the FZ-10 in comparison to the R1. I would have liked to see better brakes on it, the rear felt spongy and the front lacked the bite that my 600rr has...braided lines and a better master cyl would most likely do the trick. the master cyl on the FZ10 is a box like you would expect to see on touring bikes not anything like the ones you would see on a SS.

i still may buy 1, it not a bad bike at all, but it just didnt seem as powerful and was really missing the wow factor i was hoping for.

without a doubt this bike needs more aggressive gearing... the gears felt too long and too weak. -1+2 and it would probably feel ok...im not sure what tooth counts they put on it.

a modded, and tuned, and geared 600rr.
its probably a great machine just the demo ride setup didnt leave me with much of a chance to really try it out.

i still may buy one one day, but im just not as eager to do it as i hoped.

i tried the A, standard and B modes. i forget offhand which was the mode that gave a bit more torque but the other 2 modes i barenly felt a difference.
would be a awesome feature for riding in the rain.

Litre bike with 150+ hp should feel way more hyped up than a 600. Long first gear is probably done just to try and keep the front wheel down. As you said, probably would feel way different if you weren't in a demo/group ride scenario.

Demo ride setup was definitely a damper on being able to actually try it out.
I'm not defending my 600...but I really expected a lot more out of the fz10.
My first gear breaks every speed limit in Ontario.

Our demo ride is this Saturday. I will ride it and try to offer my opinions on it early next week when I'm back in front of the computer. I have high hopes for it, which I am trying to temper.

Yamaha should really start getting public feedback sometimes. This monstrosity is replacing the FZ1? Yikes! SUPER FUGLY

Did a BMW ride about 5 yrs ago. Took out the K1300s.. Group environment.. Long ride (nearly 2hrs) on back roads, 401 and DVP... and got to really *ride* it. :-)

Just came back from my test ride with the FZ10. I don't know how I feel about it actually. I'm not entirely sold. I do find the throttle super twitchy, just like how my Daytona was!
