Starting to get the itch for a more modern bike. Suggestions for a modern naked?

I have test ridden some bikes and am starting to get the itch for modern brakes, lighter weight, fuel injection etc.

These bikes all seem to appeal to me:

Suzuki GSX-S750

Kawasaki Z800

Yamaha FZ-07

Ducati Monster 921

Suzuki SV650

The Yamaha FZ-09 is obviously an option but like the Monster 821 it might be too big a step up at this point. The SV650 would obviously be a no brainer. If Honda brought over the naked version of the CBR650 it would fit right into the equation. Anyone have experience with any of these bikes or have some other recommendations?
 
It's hard to tell from your pic, but if I squint it looks like your riding an older CB750. You can make the jump to any of these bikes including the FZ-09 as long as you take it easy at first as you get used to the increased performance. Really though, that advice applies to anyone upgrading to a new bike regardless of what their current ride is. You should always take it easy at first and get used to a bike. If it were me, the FZ wouldn't be on the list just because I think its ugly, and I'm a Yamaha fan! I love that motor but would have to go with the XSR900. Same motor in a sexier package. The GSX-S750 would probably be my pick out of the bunch. A de-tuned GSXR750 motor in an upright but still very sporty frame is a fantastic combination. I like the Ducati too, but dealerships are few and far between and if you don't like your local one, getting work done is a pain in the a**.
 
My buddy just bought an XSR900. Pretty sweet, with better suspension and better brakes then the FZ09. With that said I love the FZ07, so if that's your price range go Try it out. Yamaha all day woohoo. I just wish they had a starter naked.

Love the XSR900. Saw one in the flesh with the 60th anniversary paint schema, really nice. The XSR700 is not bad either but it seems to be a lot busier that the 9.
 
Monster 821. I have it and it's best bike I ever owned compared to my previous 4 bikes.

It has rider modes. I ride it in sport all the time. But if that's too much power you can tone it down to touring ( same power but throttle response is easy). Or urban/rain (Low power and easy throttle)
 
I ride an 08 Z1000 and love it. Lots of power and torque, modern suspension and brakes, plus the added bonus of it being considered a sport touring on the insurance front. Very sporty looking and with the flat bar I have installed is still very flickable and fun to ride, plus you can tour longer distances as I find it more comfortable than clip ons.

My son moved from the SV650s to the 2013 FZ8 and just adores it. Very good reviews and there are a few around. This review nails it.

Bike I never heard of and now adore. Very popular in Europe.
http://www.cbf1000.com - under 500 lb and can play in the twists or tour as you want....no end of torque. Honda's superb dual link/ABS brakes.
I put 8-9,000 km on between sept 15th and end of Nov on mine and really enjoyed the machine.
 
No offense but anyone buying an FZ8 instead of a FZ09 is foolish. If you don't know why then look it up. More weight, less engine, why?

I get what you're trying to say but some people like more that tamed FZ8 four banger instead of torque monster such as FZ09. In addition, the price difference between these two (used) could around 2-2.5K.
 
Then get an FZ07, makes no sense getting an FZ8

Yup, my bike is an older CB 750 (1981). It came with 72 HP, and I'll bet I am lucky if it is making 60-65 HP now with lost compression etc over the years. It is a heavy bike too so a new bike with 20-40 more HP and 80-100lbs lighter would be a much different power to weight ratio. I rode my buddies 2012 GSX-R750 on and off one day when we were out riding and I loved how it handled but the riding position was not for this middle aged guy. These modern nakeds have a fairly "standard" upright riding position and also real usable mirrors so they tick a lot of boxes for me.

I have never ridden a Monster but the gang at Apex offered me the opportunity to take one out. I declined because I felt that I should not ride one of their demos unless I was more serious and in a position to make a buy. Now I may take them up on that offer when I pop in again. Apex is right in my neck of the woods and several riders I have met say that they have had good sales and service support from this dealer.

Two Wheel in Guelph sells most of the other bikes in my list and Tyler has been amazing to me the past several seasons with info and giving me good deals on gear. Kevin there sold a friend of mine a new 300 Ninja and they have not dropped the ball on service yet so I would do everything in my power to give them an opportunity to sell me my next bike as well.

As for the Triumph options... Sturgess is a reasonable commute. I remember the Speed Triple when I saw one of the original around 1995. The current incarnation is probably an amazing bike. I just can't get over the look of the front end! Could be my taste is whacked...

I may go back to something more classic/retro at some point but I would like something a little more modern for my next bike.

Gotta agree. The new 3 cylinder FZs were clearly destined to be classics that would be talked about for generations. The FZ8 is already forgotten. Not that it was a bad bike, mind you. But it just didn't do anything remarkable. It would be like trying to satisfy your passion for movies by binge watching Mena Suvari movies.
