M1 Road Test

finally got my M1 today after passing the written test, the lady at MTO center said i gotta wait atleast 60 days to do my road test, but its gotta be less than 90 days.

But can I enroll in the motorcycle safety course before the 60 days? Or do I have to wait till after 60 days before enrolling?



On the website it says "You need to wait at least 60 days before you can take your first road test. Your M1 licence is valid for 90 days"

but then it also says on the same page "When you successfully complete a motorcycle safety course, you will get a referral envelope. If you bring this referral envelope to a DriveTest centre, within six months, you do not need to take the M1 road test — you move directly to the next level (M2)."

So does this mean that i can take the course (theoretically) tomorrow and after finishing it, get my M2 before the 60 days of waiting time???

If you completed an MSF course you would not be required to wait the 60 days.
 
I believe that you have to wait 60 days before the upgrade can go through. You can do the test beforehand, but you need to have held your M1 for 60 days. They used to give you an envelope at the courses, and had you print the date that you could submit it on the outside. Now everything is electronic. If you've already done everything once, and let it expire, then the waiting period might be waived. That's my understanding anyways.

If your M1 expires you can book the M2 immediately after getting it the second time. I'm in that boat right now although there are no tests until mid April.
 
I'm pretty sure you can go ahead and do your motorcycle safety course RIGHT AWAY, complete the practical test at the end of the course and then get an envelope. You then need to wait until the 60 days from the time you successfully wrote your M1 before going to the ministry to hand in the envelope.

Once you hand that in you will have your M2.

This is 100% accurate. They do indeed give you a certificate of completion that you can hand in after your 60 days are up to receive the M2
 
from my understanding you can give the paperwork to the ministry any time before the 60 days, but you are under the M1 restrictions for the 60 days either way. I am doing the course in Whitby the first intake in April but my 60 days aren't up till the end of April. I'll be taking my paperwork in the following Monday (assuming I pass) so I'll find out for sure then.
 
You are ONLY eligible to move from M1 to M2 between 60 and 90 days AFTER completing the M1

you can get a M1 on Friday and take the M1 exit course on Monday but still need to wait the remaining 57 days or whatever it is, to hand in the envelope to get the M2
 
Not sure about the envelope thing anymore. GTA should be electronic by now.
 
regardless of whether you get your certificate of completion electronically or in paper form, you MUST wait the 60 days before going to the Drive test center to convert your M1 to an M2...you can take the course anytime after completion of your M1...the only time this doesn't apply is if you had an M1 previously that expired...then you don't have to wait the 60 days...
 
You MUST wait 60 days. BUT you can do your course and then apply for M2 on or after 60th day. Just to reaffirm what everyone else has said here.

This was my experience - Centennial put the course completion/pass into the MTO computers, after the 60 days had passed I just went to my local MTO office, they saw it sitting there (electronic), and gave me the M2 upgrade - no certificate in an envelope or anything required.

I took the course about 30 days or so before I was even M2 eligible, so I did have to wait, but it was pretty seamless aside from the typical frustrating wait at the Drive Test centre.
