You've nailed it on the head when you mention the distance to get anywhere fun. For me it was at least two hours to ride to some moderately fun gravel roads towards Kinmount & Bancroft, so it was a minimum of four hours just to get to and from the fun stuff.

In contrast, the trip to Ganaraska takes me an hour each way, and I usually spend 4 hours of hard riding there before I am exhausted. The ratio of travel time to fun is just so much higher. It sounds like you're even closer to Ganaraska, so I'd highly recommend spending a day with TrailTours, as it might drastically shift your bike selection.
 
I’ll search around the internet today, but does anyone haveany recommendations/suggestions about the smallest/lightest trailer suitablefor transporting 1 – 2 motorcycles? Ijust say two to keep things open a bit

Best solution of all.
Ideally enclosed that would also serve as winter storage for the bikes and for your tools - think big trunk for the Civic but of course more dollars.

Otherwise just a two bike trailer...they are on kiji all the time.

Since you are close to Gana then for sure get something that is properly off road and light.
I have to ride 40 minutes in Cairns to get to forest trails etc and still debating on getting rid of the KLR for something lighter but then I also like putting in 400 km days and the KLR will do that in surprising comfort ( thanks to Sargent seat ) and since I'm not doing single track....The KLR is bullet proof for puttering around dual track forest roads and has a top case.

Thinking of taking along one of the small block and tackle rigs just in case as it's a grunt to lift. Just lifting that first foot or so with some sort of leverage would be useful.

So far have not dropped it when I'm on my own but hey ....

Probably the best combo in the thread. Grab a used minivan instead of a trailer, stuff the Honda in the back and you're set. You can go camping with that setup just about anywhere.
 
Not sure full size off road bike will clear a mini-van - they are tall bikes but there are bumper racks that work.

Bought a trailer hitch assembly (hitch/receiver/wiring harness) today for the Civic, should arrive Tuesday.

Will check-out the Royal Distributing trailer Ash linked earlier, and will also look at enclosed ones. MacDoc provided some good reasons why enclosed should also be considered. I have a few months, so will shop around at a leisurely pace. I'll make sure to monitor kijiji for any used ones.
 
You shouldn't tow an enclosed with a civic the issue isn't the weight it is the drag any enclosed trailer is like towing a barn door, I wouldn't tow one wit anything smaller than a minvan.

Don't fret if you don't find one by Spring. I've been known to lend out my 2-bike trailer to fellow Bowmanville riders ;)

Agreed...you will need your bike and trailer money to fix your civic. ;)
