Dropped My Bike

Running late for work. Pulled into a parking spot in a rush. Started lowering bike onto kickstand. Missed the step where you put the stand down. Doh! Didn't realize until it was too far and lost balance. Almost dropped it onto a car.

Minor mark on one fairing bolt and front edge of exhaust. Clutch lever, shifter, and exhaust / foot peg mount are bent. Could be worse. Still rideable I hope as I've gotta ride out to Guelph and back this afternoon. Clutch seems to function fine and shifter just barely doesn't hit anything so should be fine.

Minor bruise on left leg where it landed on me and knocked my right ankle off something which also gave a tiny bruise.

Don't be a dumbass like me.

(Wasn't sure if this was the right section to post in as these are usually worse crashes but seemed most appropriate.)

GWS rider.

Lol thanks. My ego is still sore.

GWS rider! Make sure to post your location so people can say how long ago they were in that parking lot/intersection/street/city.

Speedy recovery!

Watch for pinched cables. Lost one a long way from home, a day after a drop, when I first started riding.

Harsh. I've learned to follow a ritual when parking, mines too heavy to catch from much of an angle.

OP, a few years ago, had my left knee give out while backing up the bike. We went down, slowly. B**** of a time picking it back up. There were witnesses. We all do something like that. In fact, the other morning, on my ride to work, swear to God I looked down to make sure I remembered to put pants on. Welcome to the world of Joe Bass.
Hope you heal up quickly.

Lol I've definitely had the feeling that I forgot pants or a shirt before.

I'm fine. Bike is mostly fine. Rode to Guelph and back. Parts are so cheap for this thing that I only did like $60 worth of damage or something like that and even those parts I could probably just leave bent if I wanted to and be fine. I didn't let that stop me from ordering $600 worth of parts, though, lol. But that included new chain, sprockets, and tensioner, clutch kit, and a bunch of other misc parts.

Wow, $60 is expensive for a tip. I did a high side on my old bike and it was $60.

Really? When I had my 650R it seemed almost every part was over $100.

Hehe. I do that too.

I dropped mine earlier this spring. Wheeled it out of the garage to the driveway to let it idle a bit. Put it on the side stand. Driveway has a bit of a downward slope and, being aware of that, I was very careful to watch the bike when I first put it on the stand. "You're not going to move, right? You're not moving...not moving..." as I slowly release the bars and back away. It didn't move. So I turned to get my helmet and heard a thud. Look around and the bike is lying on its side, burbling at idle. *sigh*

Like yours, little damage: scuff on a fairing, scuff on a frame slider, bent shifter. I was more worried what neighbors across the road would think. I didn't think I had the strength but surprised myself at how fast I lifted that 465-pound porker off its left side and back on its stand, a little further back into the garage :)

Stuff like this happens to the best of us. Glad to hear you and the bike are doing well.
