Looking at getting my second bike, novice rider, litre bike?

How tall are you? If you'd like to try out my 07 R1 you're welcome to take it for a rip for a day. It just got all new bodywork and crap installed so try not to drop it.

Once you see how much easier it is to ride a 1000 over a 600 you won't even consider the 600 unless insurance is too retarded on the 1000.

You're awfully trusting. Can I borrow your bike for a day just for the heck of it?

Sure, we can trade. If you had a RS250 I'd trade you bikes permanently :)

Do people use ACF-50 for chain lube?

I don't think they do. The same company makes some thicker grease products I was thinking of trying, though.

I really should have imported an RS250 instead of buying this RS125. Couldn't get a quote for it, though, and the only person I know of that has one (on this forum) also said he had a hard time getting insurance and wouldn't tell me what he pays.

Litre bikes are easier to ride, sanely. But the insurance will be the highest on an R1.

There are 750s out there, true story.

So he shouldn't go to a twisty road on the RC390 he thinks he's mastered but getting a 1000 is fine?

Never said anything about getting a 1000cc bike. Don't know where you got that from.

Post a picture of your RC390's front tire.

I must've thought it was implied since you said going somewhere where he can see the true potential and enjoyment of his current bike (to make him want to keep it) is a bad idea and did not say anything against the question of this thread (should he upgrade to a 1000), that meant you supported the idea of the 1000cc bike more than taking his current RC390 to Tail of the Dragon. I guess I misunderstood.

Just didn't really want to get involved in the liter bike convo...

If you want a bigger 1L bike and your experience is a no no.

What you want is something with a better riding position. What about a Honda CTX 500 and above? How about a 90-97 VFR750 (cheap insurance ish), or 98-09 VFR800. The VFR is classifed as a sport touring meaning it's a bit more on the comfort side. Also a set of Heli bars, and a corbin seat makes it a lot nicer ride.

BMW F800 is a nice bike as well.

Kaw there's a ZRX 1100 / 1200. Nice looking bike, but I'm not 100% on the ride quailty. I think it's about 100hp which isn't too bad.

None of those electronics packages have an anti-stupid switch. That switch only appears after you've spent some time riding and getting used to all different types of conditions, road users, etc etc

lol at the anti-stupid switch, after turning 25, about 100k km and over 6 years on the street mine has finally started to kick in.

These pins in my wrist are really holding me back as well this season and prevent me from pushing it too hard. I can't wait to have them taken out in a couple months.

I've got WAY more time in and my stupid switch still gets tripped occasionally. How did you demo your wrist?

If you need your drivers licence as I do, litre bikes are hard to have fun on the streets. :D
Edit: I second the fz6, meets all your wants. Significant power upgrade, comfortable, and fun.

very very stupid mistake, entirely my fault...

I was bbqing and working on my bike over the course of a few hours. During that time I had flushed the coolant, when I filled it back up the rad cap got left laying around out of sight and I somehow stupidly forgot about it after screwing on the overflow reservoir cap. First right turn down the street it spilled wetting me literally from head to toe on my right side and causing me to highside...

There was another guy couple years back insisted he was master of the universe and moved up from "too slow" 250 to 600SS after a few weeks of riding....
Last time I saw him his spiffy fast new bike was 12" from the butt end of a guard rail in Ancaster with a litter of expensive plastics around it.

He was lucky ....another foot and a very painful if not deadly face plant into the end of that rail.

just sayin..

FZ-07 be way smart.
