How much to have bike lowered?

Lots of youtube videos on this:

In some cases, if you only need 1/2", just sanding off the skin of the foam will allow you to sink deeper into the seat.

These work (in so many ways)

I have a pair just like that. They do work.

We lowered dozens (hundreds?) of new Ninja250s over the years at Kahuna.
Best way is to get replacement dogbone having couple of different heights - including stock.
(Then you never need stock dogbone again, even to return to stock.)
A 1" drop at the rear is no big deal. It will increase both your steering rake angle and trail very slightly.
This is okay for new riders and street riding, and actually advantageous for straight (highway) running.
More trail increases the self-centering tendency of the front wheel, benefitting top-speed stability.
Less trail helps the bike feel more agile and change direction more instantly.
Bottom line: If not doing Track Day, any bike can be lowered a bit without problem.
So why isn't it manufactured lower in the first place?
Typically it's a trade-off - the lower bike will of course drag sooner in hard cornering, and maybe bottom suspension easier.
Therefore not the hottest setup for Track Day pilots or 250-pounders...
Hope this helps

You state at the rear... So if you drop it at the rear should you not drop it at the front as well? I ask because I bought a 250 last year that has been lowered an inch (i think) at the rear, and a little in the front because the forks stick up a little through the handlebars. The guy that did it owns a shop and machined the dogbone himself (it was his wife's bike).

I'm 5'11" 150lbs and don't need it to be lowered so I'm debating bringing it back to stock with an OEM dogbone. I haven't even rode the bike yet and have little experience of what it should or should not feel like, but I'm an inexperience and unaggresive rider..

I would not lower it. It's already very easy to scrape the pegs on a 125 or 250.

I'm going to go ahead and guess fjbabe won't be scraping any pegs on the street but would benefit from the confidence of the lower bike. I could be wrong tho.

It's easy to scrape the whole bike for most new riders.

I wasn't being sarcastic lol

I know a girl who's 4'11 that rides extremely well but hit limitations on her lowered 250 relatively early. She also had many "horrey ****" moments earlier in her riding life due to scarping hard parts.

On the flip side, I know another girl that's 5'2 that lowered her GSXR600 and thinks shifting gear, committed mid corner, is fine and dandy.

First it's a 650 not a 125 or 250 lol
And as much as I will love to get that low on a corner chances of that ever happening are probably nil... lol
Just thinking I might wait see what the height is like with my riding boots on and go from there..
Thanks everyone
