Air Canada's new motorcycle cargo options

Wonder if they do Australia, would love to fly my track bike from here to Philip Island next time I go back.

This was the address provided by the Cargo representative I spoke to on the phone today. If you have another address perhaps you can contact them to see if they'd consider giving a group/corporate rate to GTAM members?

I shipped two bikes to Europe last summer with air Canada. They were together in a large container and strapped really well. Only problem was that bikes got bumped on next day flight. You can have quater tank of gas and whole process is easier than it looks on paper.
 
That's fantastic! I bought my bike in BC last summer and rode it back. Flying one way saves vacation time for better rides out west.

Sounds interesting, but this would also be my biggest concern. If someone actually gets through to talk to a person, ask how it is shipped. Do they crate it, or just strap it down in the hold. Can you have panniers on? One advantage of a crate is that you can also ship your lid & other gear in the crate with the bike. Plus you pack it, so you know everything would be secure.

Agreed. I would want to pack it myself, or at least observe how it is packed. The entire trip could be ruined by a bad "cargo specialist"

When I spoke with them, you can have all your cases on, 1/4 fuel tank. I don't think you need to worry about the bike coming lose in transit as that's a HUGE safety hazard. You can also pack the casesif you tell them whats in them.

OK, so I called....them...I was curious..

Cannot fly directly to San Jose, as their bigger planes do not go there, so you have to fly to Los Angeles - LAX and then its a couple hours of riding to your destination, roughly...

Cost was based on bike dimensions being 90" long X 38" wide X 54" high, yes this is a big bike....LOL but it should cover just about anything...

and the price - $1188.00 all inclusive

And i know some guys who work cargo... and gotta tell you they arent necessarily a super happy bunch :P

I'd be wrapping the cases in 3 layers of bubble wrap before I give them my bike. Otherwise I'm sure they'd most likely come back scratched. Not enough damage to make an insurance claim, but enough to pi$$ you off abut Air Canada every time you looked at them.

Not really,Wardair use to do it in the early 80's. I looked into it in 1984 and I think it was $800 round trip to Europe.Still, all things considered Air Canada' prices are not that bad.Much cheaper than renting if you were going for a month or longer.

yeah I was thinking about it and I agree... didn't realize it was 3000 kilometers... especially after loving the mountains, what a garbage experience riding home would be.

It doesn't take that long man... plus once take your bike on a two hour ferry ride you become super hardcore. The IBA license plate frame will magically manifest on your bike. Plus Vermont and Maine are pleasant places to ride through.

As you can see in the article, that is a picture someone took from their cell phones at the motorcycle show. We were not giving out the rate sheet for this reason. Having said that, the prices you see there for the destinations shown will apply, but, we can offer rates to more destinations, and additionally, we have some routes out of Vancouver and Calgary that were added. In no way was that picture an official publication as we have not posted any rates on our website that you can review at

Great! I hope you understand. If you look at the rate sheet it shows Nice, this is a seasonal lane for us so we didn’t give out the rate sheet because customers may end up making travel arrangements, then calling us to book their biked only to find out our seasonal flight is no longer operating.

So, I would suggest that CAVEAT EMPTOR be the course of action if anyone is thinking of booking their bike with AC as these prices were NOT meant for public distribution AND may change at anytime.

I emailed from the Air Canada Cargo site last night and got a reply this morning. They don't do it to the US, 'Due to US customs regulations, we do not offer any service to or through the US as they do not allow for personal effects shipments by air transport.'

Not sure if that was just to me but that was the reply I got when asking which airports in California they can do that at.
