should i go with a liter

I can say that the new zx10 (2011+) isn't a great street bike. You really need to get the rpms up before it builds power. Now a 2004/05, that thing will spin the tire followed by a wheelie at 5-6000rpm :)

899? That's no litre bike.

899, hopefully he means ZX9...the little engine that could.:)

So why not compromise? A 600cc bike with a -1/+2 (or more) sprocket upgrade to address any alleged in-town lethargy?

That ship has sailed. 1000 or gtfo. And I'm glad they got rid of the RZ/RG500 because they had no bottom end and people really hated riding them. RZ350, RD400 good God what were people thinking? So 1000 it is going forward.

Thank you for that bit of info.. I will take notice of that when I ride the ZX..

Is there something you guys think I should check out? Obviously I won't be buying till its a bit warmer.. so I have some time to research the **** out of my main target of interests..

EDIT:S1000RR.. have to consider that one too.

I just got back from Riders, i ordered the -1 +2 with a D.I.D 520 conversion. so this is what im trying before i go with a literbike.

Check with corsameccanica.com, they are moving the 2014 RSV4 right now, nice discounts. Winter time is always the best time to get a good deal on a bike, always higher prices in the spring.

Will do. I got a few people who recommended them. I met a few of their people at the show, very nice.

I am feeling your need for a upgrade. What 1000cc bikes were you looking at as a possibility?

Rsv4 or s1000rr. Hard choice but I'm betting the bmw is more comfortable

I'm going to do some serious YouTubing.. and reading..

I have many great memories of a zx9. Pretty sure that bike is what sealed the deal between me and my wife. What 16yr old girl could resist a 17yr old boy on a zx9? Lol

The new zx10 is a fantastic bike don't get me wrong, its comfortable and the best part....you can ACTUALLY SEE OUT OF THE MIRRORS!!!

ZX10 seal of approval in. Life can go on.

One... you're still alive? The zx9 for its time I remember being a monster. I remember the first time I saw a blue one in person. So wanted it

Two... oddly the first thing I said when I sat on the new zx10 at the show was "look at that I can see past my elbows!"
Felt like a comfortable bike to me. Just not sure I can get over the front end in street trim.

Not to thread jack but how much? I saw you post that you got a good deal
about $250. but you can expect the prices to go up once shops and warehouses run out of last years inventory. ide expect at least a 20% bump.

Personally I don't like 600s on the street either no get up and go at 4k my last 2 bikes have been 1200cc and can still get up and go at that rpm with a wheelie thrown in for good measure in the 4 lower gears.

Having ridden a Yamaha R1 the last 14 years and on a GSXR600 last season both bikes have their own character and riding characteristics. The torque of the R1 is incredible but at no time have I ever felt the 600 to be under powered. If you are one of those guys who are riding in 5th gear at 50 KPH you will find the 600 lethargic until the higher revs. Some of the new 1000s have managed to use gearing, longer swing arms and electronics to make them more manageable to ride. I think all motorcycle enthusiasts should not limit themselves one way of thinking and really experience what each motorcycle has to offer.

Yup first production bike to break 10s in the 1/4 mile. I also put 30,000km on it.

I'd been riding dirt since I was 7-8 and on the back of my dads bikes since my feet could touch the passenger pegs. Riding a bike wasn't a new thing and I knew to respect the bike.

Don't do dumb **** and you'll stay alive no matter how old :) I also never got a ticket on the zx9 or the 04 zx10 (which I was riding at 20).

I did race a 600 for a season after I'd been on a 1000 race bike. They're slow on the track too.

Slow? What a coincidence, Valentino Rossi said that about converted street bikes. He rides MotoGP.

Really? Never heard of him.

And for everyone else that isn't in this MotoGP thing I guess we'll have to deal with converted litre bikes. Ever ridden one?

Nm I just quickly scanned the posts, your one of the people that's never ridden a 1000 but has somehow formed an opinion of what it's like to. I'm assuming me saying 600's are slow struck a cord as that's the fastest bike you've ever ridden and it's power scares you. It's alright, big boy bikes aren't for everyone.
