Canadian Black Friday sales - meh

Looking at the flyers for black friday in Canada it seems like there's nothing worth actually getting out of bed early for...

All the sales appear to be "regular" sales, only there's more items on sale than normal. No huge savings.

Canadian tire, they regularly put tools on sale for 75% off so tools aren't a big deal, most of the other stuff is 25-50% off with the odd item that also ends up on deep discount occasionally too.

Future Shop and Best Buy. Nothing special here, maybe one or two items with a deep discount, not high profile items either. Where's the $100 for the $400-$500 tv that they only get 2 or 3 stock on?

I cant imagine anything worth lining up for or getting to a retailer at 5am to score. The regular flyer stuff at most retailers is as good as it will get.

Last night I ordered a few things from websites in the USA.
Exchange rate is horrible, some deals are not a deal when you apply at least 12% on top, right now there's so many thing cheaper in Canada, it is important to compare carefully...

Eh, they always seem meh to me.

Staples has Macbook Air 13" i5 1.4ghz 128gb on for 899$ -$200 savings if anyone cares. That might be the only thing that sparked my interest.

Never understood this stuff. We all know Feb is a better time for these kind of purchases. Going out for this is like boxing day. No thanks

Target Canada suppose to have a 40 inch TV for 119$ but then again its some no name crap in America for ,199 40' samsung... Sigh

The only thing im looking for is a good deal on a micro 4/3 camera...so far no luck :(

Only reason Canadian companies started the Black Friday sales was to compete with US sales when the dollars were on par. Right now with 13% hit on exchange rate they don't have an incentive. The US Sales don't look so nice once the exchange kicks in.

Btw love the entitled mentality. 20% being scoffed at. Profit margins have been slashed since 2009 financial crisis. There is simply no more meat on the bones.

First I've ever heard of consumers being called entitled by choosing not to consume.

I think the Canadian black friday sales are very "meh" because the same sale prices can be had nearly any other time during the year as well.

Just cruise through the weekly flyers, someone will always have something on sale. Black Friday is hyped up to be a day of crazy savings, so when the flyers come out and the discounts are no different than any other week during the year.. why bother? Why bother surfing through busy stores when you could just go a week after? I also think Canadians are slightly more sane than Americans when it comes to frivolous spending. Awwwww damn! I don't need a new giant TV but that one is 50% off! I better camp out for 3 days and miss work just to get one!

CAPITALISM!!!

50 dollars off isn't much to crow about. that's only 20%.... traditionally black friday sales are significant.

I might normally agree with you, but the Nest almost never goes on sale. For that particular item, that's an amazing sale.

Lol yeah pretty small wheres the 70 inch TV I'd be buying that

A single apostrophe indicates feet. You had indicated that a 40 foot TV was only $200. That IS massive.
