Hope this is the right place to post this question. If not, mods please move it.:confused::confused:

Thinking about selling my bike, and got a reasonable offer from a dealership to buy it from me. some questions:

- when the dealer gives you an offer to buy your bike, is that the actual final amount you'll get? or are there hidden deductions/charges?
- dealer said they'll cut me a cheque (non certified). is that cool or is there reason to be concerned?
- what are the documents I need to bring to sell to the dealer? just the ownership or do i need to bring UVIP, etc?

thanks guys

So non certified cheq could mean that it could bounce and that youll always have to hunt them for the money. On top of that, youll have to pay a bounce fee if it the cheq bounces.

yeah, I know. The dealer made it sound like that's what they usually do when they buy up bikes. I would obviously never take a non-certified cheque when selling privately to another person, but just wondering if others have dealt with dealers before, and if they are good for their word.

Just make sure is a legitimate dealership. Do a search etc.
It's not normal for a dealer to offer you a reasonable amount. . Unless they are positive they have a buyer lined up for a quick flip.

What dealer? For the first time ever this year I had a dealer tell me they couldnt take a check unless it was certified. If its the same one you can tell them to get ****ed and give you a certified check.

Yeah they seem legit enough, have a large showroom with tons of 2nd hand bikes, have a web presence, etc. Checked on OMVIC, and they are registered. I guess it should be ok then?

When I say reasonable, I mean reasonable for a dealer offer. I know I can definitely get more from a private sale, just don't like the hassle.

Also, anyone know anything about what paperwork is needed when selling to the dealer?

Just ownership.

You can take non-certified cheque, but do not hand over possession of the bike for 7 business days until the cheque has cleared. If the dealer doesn't like that, tell him to forget it.
