Given the insurance is the same

C'mon... let's see the other side ;)

Why concerned? How's it run, idle?
I ain't no expert, but I can tell you if it's running like crap! You still living downtown? PM me if you want a second set of ears, eyes. I should be free Monday.

Audible momentary drop in idle every 5-8 seconds

Nice bike.

Did you take for a ride? How's it run? Any hesitation? What is the idle speed when warm?

Does it have a fuel filter installed? One of the previous owners may have installed one and it could be clogged - http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fuel_Filter_Installation

Some things you can do easily...

- Check/Clean the air filter. http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php?title=Air_Filter_Cleaning
- Check/Replace the spark plugs - http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php?title=Spark_Plug_Installation_and_Maintenance

I would say that you would want to check the valves, since maintenance is probably not known. Tight exhaust valves can cause rough idling and hesitation on acceleration.

Here's what you need to know about the carb maintenance.

I know you are pretty handy, since you did the valves on your previous bike. Try doing some of the above, starting with the easier stuff.

My old ex500 needed the idle adjusting (super easy), and it really liked a can of seafoam in the tank every now and then too.

as for that seat....if you want a spare to work on to make it more comfy for long rides (it WILL make you sore) then I still have one kicking about :)

enjoy, its a great bike.

That's not even close to true. The model has had several major updates over the years.

I was mistaken... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_500)

A partial redesign of the 500 was done in 1994. The changes made include the following:

Bigger 17-inch wheels with wider tires replaced the original 16 inch wheels
Redesigned front and rear fairing
Redesigned instrument cluster and dials
New rear disk brake replaced rear drum brake
Firmer suspension tuning
Minor changes to the engine to improve reliability such as changes to the alternator. More importantly the CCT (Cam Chain Tensioner), flywheel & transmission, all three of which may be installed with minimal modification to fit any 1st generation bike(1987-1993).

How's the bike puttockc? Got it on the road?
Running alright, I'm getting used to it, got about 200K on it so far, running errands, a guy at snow city says it needs a valve job, so I'll get to in before school in september. maybe run some seafoam or the like through it

The seat seams pretty comfy so far, i'm always grateful for spares, PM and we can chat about it.

IT's torquey as **** compared to my 250, pulls hard but the engine feels.... choppy?

Not yet but will do this soon

will handle this when I do the valves
