bluetooth with a buddy when riding

That's probably more to do with the size and power of the BT antenna in most phones vs the headset. All the current Sena manual says is range might be less than regular intercom. That said, I'm interested to test this at some point if I'm riding with someone with a non-Sena unit.

I think, it's more like the limitation of BT HSP. But I agree that a real life test result would be interested.

No worries at all, provided you can get the speakers close enough to your ears.

I did have to trim out some plastic on my AFX-39 DS to mount the Scala G4 clamp, but it worked out well.

SMH10 and you can plug in your own head phones :)

so me and a buddy are looking and trying to figure out a way that we can talk while riding with one another rather yelling at each other on the hwy or at stop lights.... anyone have any cheap easy ideas or what are you guys using when riding with buddies and etc >?

Been using Sena since they came out. They are great, and can connect to other brands.
see http://www.sena.com/
They've come a long way in the past 5 years an in MY Opinion, the leading product (SMH10)

There are some walkie-talkie apps on smartphones, no range limit, and cheapo.

Remember you are using data to use an app like that. Depending on your provider, it may or may not be as cheap as it seems.

I ran with an frs radio and throat Mic setup one year when heading east with the ex in the cage. The throat Mic cost about 125, and we went through a bunch of batteries.

The Scala was a huge upgrade and listening to my tunes via blue tooth and mp3 player was awesome!

Scale G9 owner, I love it.. great range and went through torrential rain with them with no problems.. I have it meshing with Google voice commands with a special app, works great and I can send text messages with google voice and the scala..

Cool - I've been a tad disappointed with Scala due to channel loss both on the Q2 and the G4 and general lack of parts availability.
I was going to switch to Sena when time comes but with the limitation on working with other brands and your comment maybe will stick with Scala.

I use earphones through the iPhone for music for quality sound and can still hear the chatter or phone through the Scala speakers.
Positioning the speakers is critical as they are very directional.
But it makes a huge difference to riding with a buddy....both safety and sharing the ride and making nav easy.

In our case we discovered letting the navigatiing rider ride on second place while the front rider kept an eye out for road issues was the best sharing of work.

The navigating rider just tells the lead where to turn and the nav rider does not have to worry about upcoming road conditions etc.
Was accidental we discovered it and kept it that way.

Also keeps the tailing rider from climbing up the lead's *** if he's not paying attention.

Big thing with Scala make sure the charging port is sealed close ....wet = problems if not.

+1 for the Evolution from Dynamic Innovations sold at Daytona Motor Sport. Had it for 2 years now and it still works great!

some reviews on GTAM and you can google others. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...ona-Motor-Sport&highlight=Dynamic+Innovations

If you want to go on the cheap side, check the ones sold at Daytona Motor Sports. They go for $99 each or $170 for a set. I have used it with a buddy of mine and they are pretty good.

You can sync up to 3x people, but only two can have an active conversation at time.

A group of 3 of us use the SMH10, works amazing! we can all talk together or listen to music from you phone. made riding so much better!
I highly recommend it. got it from pete's superbikes, about $320 for a 2 pack.

+1 for SENA! In my opinion it's a no brainer among the competition. Ease-of-use alone justifies the decision to me.

SMH-5 if you mostly ride solo or with one other person (personally I'd save cash with the non-FM model if you have a smartphone)
SMH-10 or 20S if you want group chat functionality and other bells and whistles
