Stolen motorcycle on test drive tonight. June-14- 10 pm

Just saying the thread has served it's purpose..... now its starting to deviate and distract.... I wouldn't mind another focused thread .. you know to the point....insurance will do what they can to low ball or not pay at all.. Will have to take it one step at a time.

Some of us really like pouring salt on the wound here. A lot of macho talk as if it is impossible to happen to them. Like they are doing others a favour by selling their bike. When you want to sell, you try to sell, not throw every potential buyer away by being a prick. None of us think "anything" can happen to us which why we get into a state of shock when it does. Real sorry for the loss faisil.

Glad I didn't post my experience here I would have received tons of dr phil-know it alls. I won' deviate from the OP but I'm a beginner and know nothing about bikes let alone buying bikes. My wife came along with me with cash on hand as requesed to morningside by mclevin in scarborough. We were given wrong address (empty home) and we were almost attacked and robbed by 7 black guy who were supposedly selling the bike. Had it not been for the safety of my wife I would have allowed pride to get the best of me and stepped out of the car with a weapon making matters worse for everyone including myself.

It's not always buyers beware, it's a precaution to everyone. Most of us are honest and trustworthy and we tend to portray ourselves onto others.

And RIP to the ride whose life was taken from him.

I didn't. . That was a fake address... kijiji wouldn't let me post.. so I looked up a random address with in 5 kms. If you go to the posted address only thing you will get is ppl looking at you funny.

I tried to take every precaution to avoid making myself a target... gave address only to those who seemed genuinely interested...but clearly not enuff.

Wait, are you the OP? Dresden?

I'm confused...

Furthermore the AD...> "no test rides unless asking price (cash) in my hand. "

Failed.

Dresden is a buddy of mine who posted while I was dealing with the cops.. about the supposed test ride.. I suggest you read all the post from the start

Thank's OB7...

What you pointed out is also very important... cash in hand can be very dangerous as a buyer since you could be being set up for a robbery.... I will definitely keep that in mind when I go for my next bike.... thanks OB7.... not just sellers but buyers beware as well..

Wow.. How did that end out? Did you call cops or report it at least?

Yeah there is no need to kick a guy when he's down that's for sure, selling anything could get dangerous & it's a chance that in some point we all have to take!

Happens on most forums you get dickheads that like to rub it in, like their immune to making mistakes or being taken advantage of....

My rule is copy of your ID, and Cash in hand..then I give the keys when i'm satisfied.

That really does suck bro. Hope the insurance comes through.

Exactly what was said above... good rule of thumb is to snap a picture of the ID with your cell phone.

There's a difference between being nice & being a pushover. Don't let people take your kindness as a form of weakness.

As for you being jumped by 7 guys, I've been trying to argue this point with another member. What's wrong with a draft? Issued by a bank in the seller's presence?

I speak of the hilarious Rockerguy my bad on the typo

sorry to hear about your loss..as I've stAted once before I've had a bicycle stolen from me when I was a lil kid....tore me up inside...you must be feeling terrible....

Simple solution.....put a disk brake lock on the front brake rotor.
Alleged 'buyer' can sit on the bike, start it, ect but not going anywhere.

This. Even a simple bicycle lock in the wheel would suffice as he wont be able to cut through it in the time you are distracted. If he has a hacksaw or bolt cutter then no keys!
I have bought and sold plenty using kijiji and never had an issue. This is a good lesson though as I will be posting a bike or 2 soon.

Calling BS on putting up someone elses address in the ad though. That could be anyone, elderly couple, house with kids, and you're saying there is a desirable, often stolen item in their garage. So their garage gets broken into instead of yours??

C'mon, 7up. It may not have been a great idea but clearly Faisal isn't so cynical as to think just saying a 2011 ZX-6R is at a location makes that location a prime target for a break-in... A bit excessive to guilt him over that. It isn't hard to find out where a supersport-or-better is located, doesn't make all of those garages targets.
