Retail video games got their prices jacked up

As topic states. Every game is around $5 to $10 more than their US counterpart. Online distribution networks, like PSN and Steam, don't seem to be affected. Amazon.ca, EBGames, BestBuy, etc. all have had prices jacked up.

I noticed this because I saw the PS4 price increase and it made me poke around. Apparently our 10% dollar difference with the USA justifies a 10%-20%~ increase in price. I'm afraid this may eventually leak into our motorsports world -_-

It will leak into everything. So much stuff is a total rip off here. Everyone wonders why so many shop elsewhere.....

Yeah because of sites like kijiji where you can buy a game relatively new for less than retail play it for a few days or a week and resell to get your money back. They don't depreciate like other stuff and the rate of consumption is significantly higher. You see this a lot in trophy/achievement hunters. I don't see this trending with the automotive industry. The price will always be cheaper for US because of their larger economy and our relation to it. It sucks that we make vehicles here and send them down but we still pay a lot more for it and for freight and shipping!

We need to stop adjusting our dollar to stimulate the American economy. Look how many big businesses like Heinz have left Canada to go back to US.

Your points are true but have nothing to do with why the prices got jacked up.

The prices have only increased in CANADA because of the Canadian $ sinking. I think this is utter ******** because it's not like we're being paid 10%-20% more for our work here; this just increases the standard of living. I really hope PSN and Steam do not jump on this fail wagon.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm sure they have been looking for an excuse to jack up the price for a while now.

This is what you get for being Canadian. If PSN is offering it at the price it was before I suggest you buy it from there only.

They'll get you one way or another. Your CC will be charged in USD currency and the CC company will use the exchange rate to bill you a higher amount.

The fact that the devaluation of the CAN currency is a planned even pisses me off.

It's still by far cheaper on the PSN.

Example:

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD $39.99 on PSN (no tax, and I THINK the listed price is in CAD, if not, it'll be around $44.00 after conversion).

Instead of the above, buy it from a store for a physical copy: $44.99 + 13% = $50.84

For anyone that buys games on a regular basis, this will add up about as fast as buying smokes did for me -_-

This is nothing new? I'll be honest tho. I was at a fast food joint in buffalo and I saw a poster saying they were hiring at $6.xx.

to be honest this is the best way to do it - buy a game of kijiji - play it and once you are done - you can sell it or better yet trade for another game

i stopped buying new games long ago - i find this is the best way, and typically you can sell them for the same price you bought them

Yup... Saw this at a McD's 2 years ago (or so) while minimum wage was like $8 for us at the time :P

I recently found out that minimum wage in new Zealand is 14.25... and there dollar is almost on par with ours... Why the big difference.... if only our wages went up like the price of goods...

I went shopping at costco after 3-4 years. I bought 10 items like unsalted nuts and dried blurries somehow my bill came to $160... I was like WTF.
