First off name calling is against the rules of this forum...
Second we can chose whether we want to follow a law or not, and with that come consequences.
Im taxed to death on a daily basis and would rather spend the 1300 elsewhere, instead of giving it to politicians who will piss it away on another scandal costing us a cool billion plus.
But hey if you're for giving the government so much of your money next time put down 2,3 or maybe 4 times the purchase price you paid for your bike and give them more cash..
BTW Uganda just passed a hell of a law, but i guess a law is a law and people deserve life in prison...

Why is this fraud? Isn't it fraud on the governments part collecting tax on change of ownership? I mean a business can't collect hst without an hst number, so why and how is it legal to collect hst on the same item over and over from private sales? is there hst collected from yard sales or on kijiji items? isn't this the same thing?

Dont see your point. Obviously I investigated this option and analyzed both options. Did I say I wanted to evade taxes?
If I could not afford the tax at the time, I was willing to go with an older model.

So if you didnt attempt to "evade taxes" then why would you say that "Guy selling me bike is also afraid to declare a lower value" ?
You broke several laws...you come on here knocking on everyone who tries to save a buck on hst yet you attempted the same thing. Then you say laws are laws meanwhile you break them as well.

I considered the advise on the forum, and discussed the options with the seller. Nothing more. He being a lawyer, advised me of the potential career risks and implications of evading taxes. I was new to canada at the time, and it was my first bike. Forgive me for asking questions.
No laws were broken.
Anyways, this is not worth my time. Say what you have to say, I am not here to defend myself. I only feel that we should not publicly provide one sided advice on how to evade taxes on used vehicles no matter how "incorrect" this law appears to be.
Now it makes sense!

why not just follow the lead of our so called leaders. McGuinty is guilty of numerous unlawful actions, yet he can shrug his shoulders at millions wasted, collect a full pension, and in reality probably never face the courts for any of it..... and I'm supposed to pay tax on a vehicle that has already been taxed! And if I dont, I'm scum! Laughable

Say your buying a bike worth $5000. Buy the bike for $1000 and pay him $4000 for the seat. On paper you just paid $1000 for the bike. No laws broken.

The other thing you need to think about is if anything should ever happen to your bike - you may have some issue with insurance. If you drop the value in purchase, then you may be up a creek trying to re-coop funds for an accident/stolen bike.
Personally - I don't get it, it's like paying tax at a yard sale. But I've bought two used bikes and paid the stupid tax. Cash Grab I say!
