Im currently looking for a new to me car/truck and I dont understand why Somepeople do what they do..

Example- Its Feb 22, Why am i looking at a Picture of your car in the summer on a great looking day ?
Why isnt there Snow ?
why am i seeing Pics from your car with a date from 3 years ago ?
Why is there only 1 picture ?
Why cant you list what is wrong, cause you know Someone is going to find out.

I went to see a Nice Jeep, and i get there and find out the Windows dont work. just say something in your ad, dont waste peoples time.

does anyoine have any insight on why theres minimal effort to sell a car ? lol

Why are dealerships using OLD pictures to sell newly listed vehicles ?

can an yone reccomend Good respectable honest dealerships, and who are *total crooks ( *in your Opinion. )

Unfortunately, not all cars sell right away. We have cars that have been sitting since October/Nobember so the pictures don't show any snow/ice/etc.

Did you ask the dealer if they were going to fix the windows?

The whole 1 picture thing also irritates me when I look at ads. I want to see as many pictures/angles of the car/bike, however I don't make my decision based on what I see in pictures. I will still go out and see the vehicle if the seller seems reasonable.

Majority of the people out there are lazy.

If they can't even make a proper ad with all the details how do you suppose they maintained the car?

And people don't list what is wrong because they hope that you're dumber than they are and you wont notice. Plenty of people don't have a clue when buying cars and will actually fall for it.

Same thing with sticker price at dealerships, no one will tell you about the rebates unless you find out on your own.

BTW if you're buying a chrysler you already lost. Might as well take your money and throw it in the toilet :lmao:

Why don't you ask these people the questions? We won't have the answers

its even worse looking at houses for sale. listing after listing of adverts with one or two pictures and minimal details
real estate agents get paid big bucks and they cant even list a few photos....
quite annoying.

I'm looking for a truck too. What you're describing applies to all ads not just vehicles. People ultimately want something for nothing so they put in the minimum amount of work and wait for responses. Less honest people are trying to hide flaws as well. Some of these people even give attitude when buyers ask for more details. What makes me roll my eyes is when the photos are upside-down or sideways, usually accompanied by no more than a 5 word description. Just chuckle, click 'back' and move on. These ads don't deserve attention.

Murad Auto Sales in Ajax, Bayley and Salem Rd (Just off the 401). Mordi is a good honest guy, they are down to earth and prices are set in stone because he's cheaper then anywhere else. If there's something wrong with it, he tells you straight up. He's straight forward, if it's good, buy it for said price and be happy.

I was wondering about the laziness part of it, If i were selling, I'd have lots of great pictures, showing all i can.

Why go see a car, if you have no idea what to expect.. im also weary of prices that seem to low Dont know if the person knows they list it low or are they trying to pawn off a problem.

am i wrong in thinking i should be able to pick up something decent for 5k ? i was looking for Altima's at the moment.

They can be problematic, the V6 models are known for transmission problems and the earlier 4 cylinder models have engine issues.
If you want a quality, full size sedan look for a 2002+ Toyota Camry. Bullet-freaking-proof.

For sure! Just keep working on it because the used car market went wonky, and it is out of whack.

Used cars got expensive in the last two years, and I don't know why. I have heard that the financial crisis reduced the supply of used cars, I have heard that used cars from the USA stopped coming into Canada as much as before (because the manufacturers adjusted their Canadian prices to make them closer), etc.

Just keep looking!

Toyotas are way overpriced. You can almost pick up a same year Altima for half the money. Also, with a V6, way more fun car. Camry is solid but boring. The only thing I don't like about Altima is the sitting position. I feel like I'm sinking. 2005-2010 Altima is a superb buy considering what you pay and what you get.

Prices went up on used cars because there was a fairly large shortage of cars coming on the market. Leasing went down and more people were buying cars so prices went up. Also quality rates are higher so dealers are taking advantage of that fact while still shorting the trade in values.

Used to to be you can get nice discounts on one/two year old cars. Now not so much. Sometimes it's not even worth to buy used cars if you finance at the higher rate. My buddy bought a brand new FRS because a used one with 20k was about 1000$ less. But that's a rarer example.

I'm lazy with selling stuff... I don't like to do it... Sometimes I won't don't pics.... but am always honest in ads. Don't like my ad, move on... I don't care.
I'm also one of those that prices lower than similar items... Why? Because I want it gone when I decide to get rid of it....
Anyone who was intersted in something I was selling but passed over because of my ad... lost out.
My ads might be crap... but I take payment plans in some cases and always give a 30 day warranty on my stuff.

OP, $5k is a stretch to buy a decent used car. Not saying it's not possible, I've seen a bunch of really good cars at that price range, but there is way more junk than anything a reasonable person would buy at that price range.

Most of the cars that dealers will have at that price range is going to be junk, you're better off looking at kijiji or trader for private sales. Look for cars that have been owned for a while by that person, not something that the guy bought a month ago and is flipping for who knows what reason.

If the budget is fixed, lower your sights to something smaller and cheaper. The Chevy Cobalt/Pursuit were crappy cars when new, but they have the benefit of being dirt cheap when new and even cheaper now. Since it's based on a Flinstone era chassis, parts and repairs are dirt cheap.

A quick search found a couple 05-06 with under 100k km, in your price range.

I'd buy a safetied private sale car.
Read the buyer when you go to check out the car. I look at a lot of things... If the garage door is open, have a peek inside without him noticing and you can tell A LOT about the kind of mechanical person they are.
EG, my garage is clean, organized, a full set of tools, a MX bike that is spotless, an older car that is in the midst of a resto-mod etc. Obviously someone like that is the type to look after a bike.

I stay away from anything that makes me feel sketchy. Lots of pictures is good. If they post pictures up of the damage they are usually a trustworthy person.
I ALWAYS include any known deficits of my vehicles in the ad when I sell them. When a buyer drives 2 hours I don't want them dissapointed.

I traded my sled for my trans am. The guy agreed on the trade without seeing the sled. I loaded the sled in the back of my truck, I drove 3 hours ONE WAY with a trailer for the car. And because of how straight up I was about the condition of the sled he was more than happy when it arrived... I spent a few hours on the sled cleaning things up before I loaded it up.

If people can't clean a car in order to sell it, they are LAZY and you know they didn't do maintenance when it was needed.

do you guys think its easier/better to buy private, or dealer ?

Dealership is easier, but its harder to negotiate the price and dealerships are professional liars. They know what to say, and you have a bigger chance of buying a car that has a story and a half.

Private can be more difficult because you have to deal with some really dumb people. But when you find the right car with the right person selling it, its a breeze. Also with private you have all the advantages that rmemedeic mentioned. You can read the person and what they're all about in a couple minutes, and you're more likely to see the bs.

Your way you eliminate a lot of potential customers, and your price suffers as a result.

I always price things im selling at or slightly above market value and 99% of the time don't move a penny. But i make an ad with plenty of pictures, every detail you can imagine, if its a car or bike i have every receipt and maintenance record possible. I dont bull**** people and keep my bikes/cars in good condition.

I've never had a problem with selling things this way, and you can tell that the buyers appreciate it and actually feel at ease dealing with someone like this. This eliminates majority of the tire kickers and its an easy choice for the buyer vs people like you who can't even post up a picture. :)
