Motogp 2013

i'm new to MotoGP, but Eurosport commentators were talking about # of wins vs. championship points

right now Lorenzo has 7 wins and Marquez 6 wins; if Lorenzo is P1 at Valencia and Marquez is P2, even though Marquez has more championship points, does Lorenzo take the championship because he has more wins?

No.
Championship is won by points.

Only if they tie in points does it come down to total wins.

I made this for a quick reference:

I think it's safe to say that Marquez has this in the bag....unless he completely chokes and bins it. I don't see it happening.

These guys ride at an edge where that can happen at any time. I think he is smart enough to take it easy and make 3rd at least. I would say that the variable in here is Rossi, if he decides to ride like Rossi then we have a problem since Pedrosa we already know is strong in these last rounds

Even if Rossi and Pedrosa are ahead of him, he'll still win no? I'm sure Marquez is smart enough and he'll pull an Alain Prost and just be smart with the points ;). Even if Rossi were in the mix of the battle, the satellites won't be.

But who knows, like you said these dudes ride at the ragged edge so we might see a repeat of 2006.

Don't rule out the potential for Lorenzo to run him into the dirt at any chance he gets...

Oh yes that right, he can be 4th and still win. I think he will win if he keeps the bike up. The last time I was too optimist he end up screwing his bike change and no points, so I am just going to say that we will see

I'm willing to bet Marquez will NOT be in pole position for the last race. I don't think he will be pushing so hard in fear of further injuring himself.

Either way, whoever will be crowned champion certainly deserves it. I don't understand how Lorenzo gets ragged and people say he doesn't deserve it. He's pushing that Yamaha to the limit and his no quit attitude I can appreciate...I think he's matured from his early d-bag days.

Well said... I used to be a hater for sure. I'm changing my mind.

Lorenzo deserves major credit for his response to 93 this season. I hope he can take it to him race after race next year as well.

Champion through and through.

Lorenzo is showing why he's two time world champ....dude is no push-over. If the M1 is on part with the Hondas next year, I think he will take it to Marquez race after race.

Well, I agree that JL deserves respect for his riding season, however this thing about the Yamaha not being on par? it is on par, it just won the last round at Honda's track, Lorenzo just uses it as an excuse for being owned by a Rookie.

He may have matured a little but he is becoming even worse than Stoner and his crying baby attitude

He and Rossi complain about the same thing about the bike, so it can't be just him.

I understand complaining about certain aspects of the bike, these guys always want perfection but saying that he has no chance on the championship because his bike is not on par with the hondas is a bit of a sore loser attitude, specially because he has won more races than MM.

Notice when Rossi talks about the championship he says "HE" needs to be in par with those 3, not the bike.

I think I missed that part about him having no chance winning the championship 'cause of the bike.

Watch some of the Pre race press conferences prior to Phillip Island and you will see.
