Why are so many riders dependent on others going out of their way to not kill them?

To answer the original question, it's because they can't see. They can't see the effects they create, despite the fact it is obvious to you. It's all about the level of awareness of the individual and caring what goes on around you, caring about the other guy, whether he's a biker or a cager. Lucky for them, not all drivers are like that, or they would be dead bikers. Some of them do learn to see.

You're actually riding in the wrong lane position, as defined by the motorcyclist's manual. Blocking position for the left lane is the right tire track (and that's not what we "think" is the correct blocking position) Why? So that you can stay in (the center lane car's) mirror's for a longer period of time, as well as prevent (i.e. "block") another car from squeezing into your lane from the right.
If you need more time to brake when people suddenly brake in front of you; then you're following too closely. This is also in the motorcyclist's hand book.
I think it's crazy to have these rules that dictate what lane position you need to always be in. I just use my head and decide where I feel most comfortable at that given point in time. Sometimes left. Sometimes right. Sometimes I don't give a **** and feel just fine driving up the middle.

To bad the guy in the yellow ducati at yonge and lawrence didn't read this thread. Just watched some ****ing idiot racing through traffic and nearly avoiding jaywalkers go full speed into the side of a car today. Dude did a ****ing front flip on the spot. He didn't appear to be to hurt cause he got right up and slipped off his helmet to yell at the driver.
Kinda wished I stopped to leave my info with the cager. Although he was technically at fault the idiot on the bike could have easily avoided the crash if he had half a brain.

The "rules" don't dictate what position you need to always be in - they describe the objectives and the manner in which you can achieve them, including some guidance on how to balance priorities.

He was riding way to aggressive for the road conditions as well as not having any sort of proper lane position. As a result this guy tboned a car that wasn't even moving.
Probably some retard car that made a left turn half way and stopped after he realized there were pedestrians. Even if the rider was retarded, if I was there, I'd side with the rider. If I were Zeus, I'd throw a bolt of lightning to any retard that stops half way through a turn because they didn't look where they're turning.

Granted the car shouldn't have been where he was, but he was stopped. The problem is that the biker swerved from the left lane to the right part onthe right lane. He didn't notice the pedestrian jaywalking so instead of letting off the throttle he accellerated and cut off another car to end up back in the left track of the left lane. The entire time this was going down the guy he hit was stopped waiting for traffic to crawl a few inches forward.油井緋色;2099451 said:

I see plenty of idiot riders on the road. I just don't consider someone following their proper right of way to be an idiot, most of the time, but I wasn't there. On the other hand, I see multiple idiot drivers every time I get in the car.
