After the race Marquez explained his team as a whole had believed completing lap 11 was permitted.

He stated, "The plan we had was not correct, we though that we could do that lap. We thought we could go into the pit at the end of lap 11. The problem was not with the pit board, that was fine, when I saw ‘Box’ I came in. Now we need to forget about it and just concentrate in Motegi."

Asked whether he is still confident of winning the championship in what has been a remarkable rookie season, a smiling Marquez concluded, "I said on Thursday that the championship is very long. Today this happened and maybe in Motegi it’s something else. I know we’re going in the right way, I feel so good on the bike. I could have fought for the podium or the victory today."

huu?? no, it means he has gone around 9 times and is on his way to completely go around the track for the 10th time. Depending on his pit location, he could already be on his second bike when he crossed the line to start lap 11.

I am not saying the decision was right or wrong, I am explaining the reason why MM's team went with that strategy

Watching the EuroSport coverage it was pretty clear. There was instruction that they were not to race more than 10 laps on those tires. Marquez rode 10.9 laps before switching bikes. 10.9 is more than 10. It doesn't matter that he swapped bikes before completing his 11th lap.

I don't know exactly what this 'piece of paper' read, but based on EuroSport's commentary it was a pretty stupid mistake to make.

Yeah, and apparently they only think the first 10 laps were dangerous??? Pedrosa pits early so he has to do 11 laps on the second bike. Marquez did the opposite and got a black flag. WTF?!

With all the comparisons to F1, I would have preferred it if they let the riders decide when to pit, as they do in wet races.

Take a look at this video in the attached link at 0:53 you'll see how bad MM's rear was with that extra lap he did.

There were 19 laps. The only way to do a max of 10 race laps per tire is to pit on lap 9 or 10. Pedrosa came in on lap 9, lorenzo lap 10, marquez 11.

You are forgetting that Marquez crashed also in one race, Lorenzo also only lost one race, so they are even, and now Marquez got DQ, meaning that the only reason MM is stil ahead is because he has accumulated more points than Lorenzo with one less race than him, nothing to do with luck.

It is luck though that he didn't get hurt or break anything which hurts performance for a few races not to mention confidence.

Having said that nobody wins a championship without a bit of luck. What he's done is amazing.

No kidding, good idea.... I was wondering if the marshalls would be waving flags down the main striaght and along other places in the track, like when they're allowed to come in and change bikes from the rain. Nope, that didn't happen either.

Pedrosa didn't pit early. They gave you two laps to pit in. Why should MM be given a out. I think he got to heated after the big slide he had that almost through him off the bike and he probably forgot to pit but still. Don't both sides of the garage know that Dani pitted. If I was MM team I wouldn’t ran right to the wall and bring up the sign. and he would have come in on lap 10 and won the race.

What was wrong with lap 9 OR 10? The rules were clearly stated, and they misread them. They were told the consequences for messing this up -.

Can you elaborate when and how they were told the consequences? also can you elaborate apart from a paper that was passed along to all riders how else were they so clear? 3 teams got DQ'ed, I submit that they weren't that clear

I am sure broadcasters were given the same paper but they had time to analyse it and think about it, the teams had other things to do to prep for the race

So please let us know the source you are using to be so clear that they were told the consequences, because some of the riders have said they weren't told. So you know more than the riders

If 3 teams were DQ'd clearly the rules weren't clear enough. For a big sport like this you'd think they'd have a big conference explaining and answering any q's the teams may have especially when this is the first time and probably the only time this rule is in effect this season.
