Tmp this sun 15 th just added

Moving to the next group is not about lap times

In my opinion is about:
You have learned consistent lines
You are predictable and are able to lap around without running off and you feel in control
You are passing people easily and feel the difference of speed with other riders is making it unsafe for yourself and others

But I am no expert

Yes you are, according to the group you ride in ;)

+1 on the topic.

Expert I consider guys with Black numbers, not red group riders, neither do I think you need black numbers to ride in red.

I think it is the responsibility of the rider to ride in a group they feel they will not be at risk or put others at risk, if that rider made the wrong choice, the organizers (specially Pro 6) are petty fast to move their ***** down or up.

I think riding in red is about been able to handle being passed in a turn which for a racer is the norm, have enough overall speed to be on the track with other faster riders and have consistent lines and track times.

I also know of riders that will never challenge themselves and ride green or yellow all their life and that is also fine.

I think a middle pack racer is probably more suited to be in red that a really fast track rider, but I am sure I will get flamed for this comment.

Sorry for getting serious on a regular GTAM shenanigans thread but I take this topic very serious. I was criticized for been in red at Mosport by a rider that came up behind me pretty fast, what he didn't know is that i was having problems with my quick-shifter and my engine spark was been cut by vibration, so I came off the track at the second lap, instead of the rider coming to talk to me, he spoke to someone else about it in my group. I think if someone feels someone else is putting them in danger they need to talk to the organizer, the organizer then will make a point of keeping an eye on that rider and move the rider if there is a need. On that specific day once I sorted out the bike i was not ask to be moved down, so I guess the organizer considered my lap times appropriate for the group.

I just meant because some track day organisers call it "Expert group". Usually it's called "Advanced group".

I'm just a fast track day rider. I guess I need to race and see if I'm in the right group. ;) Seriously though, I totally agree with you. In red/advanced/expert/fastest group you need to be able to be consistent enough that people can safely ride close to you to set up a clean race pass. On the flip side, you need to be skilled enough to deal with not running into somebody if they do make a mid-corner error when you're riding close. It all comes down to experience.

I hope you know my rant had nothing to do with you, you made a very close clean pass (which i have on video) and will feel more than comfortable riding with you in any group.

I know, no worries. Hey, are you going to GBR this Thursday or just for the Fri-Sun race weekend?

I am actually not going to be racing until the next round. My new (to me) race bike won't be ready until after this weekend so unfortunately I am missing this round.

I wanna get a bit more seriously into racing next season and needed something faster :) and well sorted out in regards to suspension etc.

Also selling my current one.

Hey cool! What did you get?

Too bad you won't be there. This will likely be my last TD this season. Would have been nice to actually meet this time and play on track again.

I am looking at being at GB on Thursday, assuming I get far enough ahead at work. It would be nice to meet you in person Dave.

I believe the layout will be Reverse Alien, which is great because sooner or later I need to learn how to turn left....

Yeah we should meet up for sure! Yes, reverse screaming alien, I've been waiting for this one all season!

I am getting a GSXR 1000 - Dave Noble bike minus the training wheels :)

Should keep the training wheels on................:lmao:
lol - bastard, Next time I am trowing a training wheel at your head on the back straight at mosport.... oh wait that already happen

I was out in the green as well, rode some 1:24's, lot's of people in yellow running 127's +. I like the green, don't mind having to slow down for slower riders the odd time, you are definitely ready for yellow based on times, but passing is different and you have to be ready to be passed in corners. if you are comfortable in green and don't mind slowing down for less experienced riders, stay there, if you find you are held up to often, move up, but it's all about having fun, prizes are no better in the yellow or red group :)

I love the carousel backwards!

How does that work out...I am having a hard time picturing it. It seems like it would come up pretty quick after the dogleg, which has kind of a top speed of its own, so maybe you end up not needing to brake much to enter the carousel?

The other corners I can pretty much picture how they would work in reverse, but not the carousel entry.

Of course, the braking zone for the carousel is also kind of a mystery to me in the normal direction....I can never get myself to go deep enough...testicles too small...
