2014 Ducati 899 revealed

^^ yeah td is on crack about a duc. First words out of the guys mouth when I called "oh.... That's a high performance motorcycle". He repeated that about three times in the conversation. Then quoted me triple what the gsxr 750 is going to cost citing the high performance issue. Pity the gsxr is faster. Morons. I told him to tell his boss to change the speech to say "we don't want to insure Ducati" It would have saved us both time.

As for the 899, it's gorgeous just weird to see a swing arm on both sides

Sent from my commodore 64 on dial up

State Farm wanted a ridiculous price for a Sportster I told them it's not even a sportbike but they said the engine was too big lol

Owning an 08 CBR1000RR ... the only two bikes to give me semi-goosebumps have been the 1199S and a 675R .. the 675R mainly because of the noise and that Öhlins rear shock on public roads.. mainly didn't feel as planted and stable.. but that noiseeeee when you ring its neck out! The 1199S is so tame under 8,000rpm that it feels like an 848.. but from the 8-11k it's naustyyyy! This 899 thing will be sorta MEH bottom end and mid, similar to the 1199. So as others have said, I bet the Tuono is the wayy better deal on the street.

Add the price of the bike and where the insurance companies are going to stick it and as others have said you can probably get a better bike for a better deal. Too bad they didn't make it a little cheaper.

+1 for the 675 noise :agave:

Hey Andreas - Have you ridden both of those bikes?
Did Chris let you ride the F4? If so - thoughts compared to Dom's bike?
I looked deep into buying a Tuono. Seems they all suffer from a "hot start" problem. i.e. fill it up, and wait an hour and a half until it will fire up. No thanks.

If I had bought the Panigale "S", my insurance would have still been under a grand / year. $900 for the base model. A tad over a grand on the "R".
Works out to only about $60 more than the GSX-R750.

I like the sound on the f3/f4 best sounding bike imo. But the 848 has so much torque down low even after riding the litre bikes it doesn't feel under power at all. Just lacks mid range. Haven't tried the Pani but heard not as much grunt down low?

Heard there's an ECU flash for the '12, and early '13 models. They've since rectified the problem before it gets put into a crate.
The one I test rode had tons of whatever you need everywhere.

I don't care what anyone says. I'd love to have one of these as a street bike. Sexy! I could get used to the double sided swingarm.

I like it, was waiting for the 'baby' Panigale to come out. I've also loved the 848's.

As for the swing arm, I currently ride a Duc without a single side swing arm so it doesn't bug me as I'm used to the look.

As for insurance, this would stop me from getting one, I already pay too much because my bike is a Ducati.....not many companies willing to cover that name for a decent price.

I love the look of the front, but the swing arm is just ugly and disgusting to me. I think the 848 still looks pretty decent though.

Hi Gary, as you know, the internet tends to make issues bigger than they are. I have had 0 problems with "hot starts" on my Tuono ($5000kms+)

When it comes to the new Ducati, I am a fan of the 999, I ready don't mind the double swing-arm. At 899CC, when can we call it a litre bike? Wasn't the fireblade 900 considered litre bike?

That's why they are single bro.

and haven't had sex yet.

Anyone will insure Ducati without comprehensive and collision. The issue is the ridiculous crash costs associated with these bikes.

Lots of people saying they won't buy it because of insurance and thus it wont sell well.
Well since when did Canada ie Ontario=the world? I am sure the bike will sell well in other parts of the world where people don't get it in the butt from insurance for owning a beautiful machine.
The bike is hot.

All these people raggin' on the swingarm, meanwhile 675r, 636, cbr600rr, gsxr600, blah blah blah don't have SSSA and that's just fine for everyone. You want to talk about problems talk about the frameless chassis and the $1900 service bills being dropped on Papa-Panigale owners.

Hi Marco......When I went looking last week, the salesman actually discouraged me from buying the bike when I said it's not uncommon for me to log 30,000 - 50,000kms / year.
I'd only read about the "hot start" on the Aprilia forum, but it seems well spread. Looks like the fix is the battery - going from the stock YTX12 to a YTX14 apparently cures the problem.

What did the Duc salesman say?
Have you checked out the servicing costs on a Panigale, not to mention trucking it to GP Bikes for two days?

Or I could just be a cheap bastard (yes, still riding the same POS...damn thing won't die)

In Ontario, it's very common for people to finance bikes, and thus require full insurance.
I'm not sure its common to fully finance bikes elsewhere.
If you only need liability, you can get insurance from almost anyone.

Ducati's world sales have been very high, even after 2008.
