Looking for a trailer

I have a friend who wants to buy her husband a trailer so he can bring his street bike up to the cottage.

She really doesn't know what to get her.
I told her about the cool single bike trailer I saw.

Where should I look?

What vehicle is towing it? If it's got a class 3 hitch he can rock a Versahaul Sport RO trailer (good for up to 600lbs).

He can rent a uhaul motorcycle trailer for $15/day: http://www.uhaul.com/Reservations/EquipmentDetail.aspx?model=MT

There are some well used trailers on kijiji around the $450 mark: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...otocross-Dirt-bike-trailer-W0QQAdIdZ521034060

And a super sexy trailer for $1100: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...railers-Galvanized-Trailer-W0QQAdIdZ521060014

This trailer would make a sweet gift, not cheap though: http://trailerinabag.com/index.html

Good luck on your search!

Yep, I found mine on kijiji/Craigslist.

Got one for sale. Boss model. Has tail lights and plate holder on it. Heavy duty built. Steve

The trailer that is on the back of the SUV by chiefswallow, you need to make sure of the hitch size as it is a lot of weight on the hitch. Is she looking for a single trailer or any trailer for a bike? What is her budget? If she doesn't need it right away she can look on kijiji everyday as there is always new ones coming up.

I have a trailer I'm selling that I've had for a few years. Fully enclosed but short (less wind drag). Set up as a sled trailer, but put in a wheel chock and it's good. 5x10 and about 4' tall with a lifting roof.

Is that a professionally built trailer? Does it have suspension?
How much and do you have any pics

Its a home built but it was done properly and has suspension. I'm doing a few things to it before I sell it so the buyer won't need to do anything other than hook it up and go. I'll send you a PM.

Class 4 hitch with air bag suspension added with a Versa HaulView attachment 33446

Two things:
1. There's no way that minivan is rated for 600+ pounds of tongue weight. You may have beefed up the suspension, but that doesn't mean the frame/unit body is built to take it.
2. Are your tail lights even visible from behind?

I get the appeal of these hitch carriers, but in North America there are very few manufacturer rated vehicles that can carry that kind of street bike weight on the tongue. They're all huge full sized trucks or SUV's that we're trying to get away from. I want to know my insurance company will back me up if something happens, which is why staying within the manufacturers specified ratings is important (to me).

:agave:Meh, have a nice day at work!!!!! 350 pounds wet and lights visible.

My VersaHaul Sport RO came with a "light kit" and license plate relocation kit with light (to the back of the trailer). I know for sure my plate is 100% NOT visible with a bike on the back, but forgot to check to see if my lights are. Am I legally required to relocate the plate and set up the light kit if my brake lights are obscured when towing a bike?

Not sure what bike that is on the back, but the Ninja 250 is ~375 lbs wet. Your bike has dual exhausts so I'm guessing it's something bigger than the 250. That'd have to be closer to 450+ lbs wet plus 100+ for the actual carrier itself. All on the tongue.

In any case, to each their own. I'm just balancing the viewpoint, so the OP isn't misled about the suitability of those bike carriers.

I don't know the law, but if your lights are completely obscured and someone rear ends you, I have a hard time believing you won't be held partially responsible.

You don't know your bikes either...ZZR250 is 308 dry and 352 wet. Been all over North America hauling with that carrier and never a stop! Have another beverage, Beverge or get off the stool.

So how dirty does the bike get riding back there in the rain? I'd rather have it inside the van, my wife can ride out back LOL. Hope she doesn't see this.

Thanks for the info. I stand corrected. Would you care to share the minivan specs too?

BTW, no need to be so crusty. It doesn't hurt for the OP to be aware that they'd need a vehicle that can take 500+ pounds of tongue weight (yes, yes, I know, only 460+ in your case) before they run out and buy something like this.

Having your 450lb load center two feet behind the hitch (like with the moto carrier) is a lot different than having a trailer with 450lb of tongue weight and a load center 6" behind the hitch.

No?

Im curious...
