New Yamaha MT-09 triple engine

Nicer seating position than the FZ8 and a lot more compact overall.

My son owns the Fz8 and sat on the Triple at the dealer and he much prefers the seating on the FZ8.

The more blacked out, the better!

Yup
I think this bike does best in all black. With the gold inverted shocks and tiny red pin striping the FZ8 looks good.
They should stick with that on a naked sport tourer as it down plays the size of the engine.

tho the dark purple tank is okay

anything else looks chopped up ( the red for instance )

I'd rather have a proper 8" round headlight and slightly more classic styling (borrowing slightly from the older Yamaha triples). Still, better than the droopy designs on the Monster/Gladius. It's a bit like the Benelli TNT 1190.

The aftermarket must be swooning over that tailights/plate holder--it's begging to be cut off and replaced.

Agree 100%!! the headlight is fugly, and I ride a naked bike with a 7" round headlight! lol.

The rest of the bike looks pretty darn good, though. I'd still rather the FZ-8 styling.

I like it. Big fan of the street triple. I never liked any FZx newer than the carb'd version... heavy beast but good. The new bike is much lighter and has what looks to be a great motor (judging by experience with triples...)

They cheated a bit with fuel tank, but the power/weight ratio will still be impressive .... At that price.

lol wow. Before clicked I thought ah it's probably not really noticeable but it looks like a huge tumour sticking out

I'm seriously considering swapping the FZ6 for one... But the first thing to go would be that exhaust.

I saw it at the Yamaha demo day at Ready Honda Powersports. They wouldn't let you ride it, but you could sit on it.

When you sit on it, the first thing you'll notice is the narrow seat. Then, the relatively small gas tank. Because of that, the bike feels compact, slim, skinny. Move it from side to side, to feel its weight, and you'll notice how very light it is. I did the same with the 2014 Bolt, one bike after another (they were side by side), and the Bolt feels like a pig in comparison. The FZ 09 feels like a bicycle.

So it has more than 110 HP... can't wait to ride it, I think it is going to be the real deal...

The Fz09 compared to the SV650:

FZ09: 113 hp vs. SV650: 73 hp - the yamaha has 53 percent more HP
FZ09: 63 lb/ft vs. SV650 47 lb/ft - Yamaha wins by 34 percent
FZ09: 414 lb vs. SV650 436 lb. - The yamaha is 5 percent lighter

The Yamaha has one more cylinder, about 14 years of development time (rough) and 250cc displacement on the SV650. Not a surprise there. The SV engine is old enough that my 2002 was carbeurated.

You are correct about everything you wrote (except the displacement, the difference is 200cc), but that's kinda of my point.

The 2013 SV 650 S with ABS is $8,400 and the 2014 FZ-09 is $9,000. Small difference of $600.

Who would buy the SV anymore, if for $600 more you can get one more cylinder, 200cc displacement advantage, 53 percent more HP, etc. etc.

See, I bought my SV for 6300 after tax, new. But hey, like I said... it had carbs, and the round-tube frame, in 2002.

Only if the insurance is a major difference... I'll bet the suspension and handling are on a whole new level, too. Given that the last real SV design changes were what, 2003?
