Contour bankruptcy sale, Roam2 for under $120 shipped!

How do you record while charging?

No matter what cable I use, if I start recording then plug it into the 12v, the record light goes off and the charge light goes on. If I start charging then try to start recording, the charge light just stays on and the record light never does.

Advice?

Yes, edit the txt file in the root folder of the card. Its a hidden file. The settings are in that text file.
Also change the extension of the filename to like mp4/avi and itll play via VLC etc.

Got my Roam 2 today, that was fast!

The camera feels very solid and I like the operation -- set how you want to record from the computer and it stays set -- just rock the switch forward and you are recording... no messing about.

What I don't like about it is that you seem to need their software (storyteller) to change settings, and said software requires quicktime (which I have no need for or use of). Also, is there any software that can control this camera from linux?

im going to change that on mine now.
mine just came in today too.

im assuming i can charge it using one of the usb adapters, my blackberry came with te cube you plug the usb into the into the wall

You've got the Roam2, the one linked in the OP?

Never had an issue with charging while recording. I would always start recording, then start the bike (which then powered the USB port the Roam2 was plug into).

I remember if I was recording, then plugged it into my laptop to charge, the record light would go off (I think because it thinks you want to download the video from the SD card, not record new video).

Here are some good troubleshooting steps for general charging issues: http://help.contour.com/customer/portal/questions/711649-contour-roam-2-charging

Yep, Roam 2 is what I bought. I even modified a mini usb cable last night so that only pins 1 and 5 remain (+ and -), but it still won't record while plugged in.

Edit: I think I found the problem. I was trying to charge while recording in the continuous photo mode, which failed. As soon as I reset it and tried to charge while recording video it works fine -- I just need to start recording then supply the power.

That is a bit of a hassle for me, as I wanted this camera to time lapse long trips... but it doesn't really matter as there is no need to time lapse while slabbing it, so I will use slab time to charge and then unplug and record when I need to.

It depends on the bike but this adapter from Contour plus the mount from ebay is a common way people mount them or any camera. I also have the water proof case. Almost zero wind noise. Water proofs it and a little extra crash protection plus it has the screw hole in it.

Thanks. It'll be going on my track bike in sig.

I got my Contour Roam 2, looks sturdy and made a few sample video, looks good.

Right now I am charging it for the first time, the menu said it would take up to 3 hours to fully charge the unit. When it is fully charged, it would turn green. However, I have been charging for over 6 hours but it is still red. Anyone have the same issue?

Mine did about 8 hours for first charge. Was charging it from my blackberry USB adapter, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

anyone else having issues with their +2??
mine is flashing red when i put the sd card in, i was able to shoot 6 test videos then the 7th one broke it.....

i tried formatting the sd card and the camera wont even format it, i cant connect it to any computer in my house.
i formatted the sd card on my computer and completely wiped it out, when i put it back in the camera then take it out and put it back in my pc, the camera installs the contour files on it again "DICM, MISC, some web link and something wordpad file)

any ideas?

Did you press the reset buttton? Something similar happened to me with my roam2, it kept flashing red even though the micro-sd card was in. I just reset the camera and reformatted the sd card and it went back to normal. Not sure which one fixed the problem.

Took about the same for mine.

Pretty much you gotta format the card when it's in the camera (by holding the reset button for 20 seconds). When I formatted it in my PC then stuck it in the camera it was hit and miss for recording.

i dont have a reset button, but i have a format button.
i pushed the format button i dont know how many times but all of a sudden it just worked right now i think..
i managed to have it connect to my pc. sont know what changed over night but whatever.
ill play it it a little today and see how it goes.

The video quality is not as good as the go pro 3. But the GPS function is freaking amazing and its looks so much better. Ive used the go pro and have to constantly check if that thing is recrdoing. With the countour, i slide the bar forward and I know its on.
