Motogp 2013

What other options did he have? He is getting ousted from Tech 3 regardless. Either end up on a satellite bike, or take the payday and hop on the factory machine. Either way I'm sure his results will suffer, at least with the Duck squad he has a 2 year contract and maybe they can make the bike competitive in that time.

Absolutely. Get paid.

Hopefully with new ownership at Ducati, maybe they can shake things up, take some risks, try new things.

Management has already been shaken up. Next comes the design. You can't ask your current engineers to come up with something better when they have already tried to put the best they can do together. Ducati needed fresh ideas and the shakedown is essentially complete now. It's still unknown whether this will yield the desired result. Only time will tell.

Cal knows all this and he's taking a calculated risk that Ducati will improve the bike for 2014 or 2015. While he waits to see if this plan unfolds, he's getting a salary that's nearly 10 times what Tech3 pays him.

How many bikes does he currently own (as his personal).
He counted around 12.

Har har har

lol cool I was there for that and got his autograph:) Might have him answering on vid. Haven't checked how the sound has come out yet.

You can tell he'd rather be on a factory honda/yamaha and get paid less to have the opportunity to win. However, based on everything else that's been said about who's going where, he had no choice than to take the lemon with the fat paycheck.

So what are all the changes for next year so far?

Crutchlow => Ducati
Espargaro => Tech 3
Hayden => ?

MM is killing it this year. But anyone else think that all it takes is a major crash/highside to somewhat slow him down ala Lorenzo in his rookie season? Or is Marquez just an alien and nothing will stop him?

Hayden is most likely going to WSBK either under Ducati or Honda (yet to be determined) where he actually be good at doing something.

Alien, 100 % :D

Redding -> Gresini Honda Production Racer (Unconfirmed)
Hayden -> Possibly LCR Honda (pending Honda USA coughing up a bunch of cash)
Nakagami -> Team Asia Honda Production Racer (unconfirmed)

Here is a funny story I read this morning. A tweet from Ben Spies:

Saw the doc today. not great. Off to surgery tomorrow! Bet Carlo is so exctited he wont remember to wipe the powder off his nose!

I lol'd.

(Context: Carlo is the Pramac team manager)

He was offered a Tech 3 bike at the last minute but with no guarantee of factory support. For someone interested in winning, that would have been the better option. Can't blame the guy but just sayin' he did have another option.

Of course the money plays a large role in switching to Ducati, but it seems every rider, Melandri, Rossi, Dovi, etc. probably went into Big Red thinking "Maybe I can tame it", as well as, "Maybe this is the year they'll turn the bike around".

Like betting on penny stocks, talent is the capital and timing is everything. You can make out like a bandit and look like a hero, or lose your shirt and slink away with your tail between your legs.

I took some photos when I was down in Indianapolis last weekend, if anyone is interested in looking. Mind you I have a very basic equipment, so they are not the best.

Gigi Dall"Igna and Ducati 2014.........[h=3][/h]

They (Ducati) need to return back to 916/998 roots and bring that back in to their GP bikes because they actually won races with them.

What could they bring back to make the bike better? That seems like the opposite of progress.

Well they went from winning a championship with 1198 to usually not making the top 10 with the 1199. Also the opposite of progress.

Oh, I thought we were talking about GP bikes, not superbikes. Even with those, the regulations have changed to favour the I4s over the twins, which is the current issue. The twins also have had intake restrictors to compensate for their additional engine size. The 1199 isn't a worse bike than the 1198, everything else is just that much better.

I dunno anything about WSBK, but in general new bikes always take a bit of time to get sorted out anyways.
