MOSPORT - August 22nd!!!

I feel sorry for you, I guess you won't ever ride on any track again then , because you could probably find something wrong/unsafe with every track in north america . We make an educated decision to participate in a very dangerous sport, and we all know full well what the consequences could be if something goes wrong. I think a lot of tracks have made great progress in terms of safety over the years , but at the end of the day , you can never prevent accidents , and sometimes they can be disastrous, that's just reality unfortunately. Anyways we are off topic here, and I reallllly wish I could get that Thursday off work....., mosport is an amazing track!

The difference between Mosport and most other tracks is the speed.

Average speed over an entire lap for a quick red group rider would be 160+ kph. Most people universally agree that Calabogie is ok for track days but unsafe for racing. IMO Mosport is ecactly the same. A lot of riders are in some bizarre sort of denial....

It likely won't matter much longer. I think the days of bikes on the big track are numbered.

I'm in a pot stirring mood this morning, so I'm going to throw this out there: I'm never going back to Mosport on a bike unless they do something to make it safe for bikes, which they won't, so I'm never going back. :( After seeing the AM SBK crash last weekend it confirms everyone's safety concerns with the paved out runoffs. I know you guys will come back with "But it's just a track day, don't push so hard that you could have a crash like that." and I'll counter that now with "BS. Sh*t happens no matter how much you're pushing it". At those speeds any crash has a high probability of being a bad crash. Call me a chicken if you want to, but with clearly no regard for bike safety, the owners have successfully made it a full-on death trap, not just the half-assed death trap it was before.

Part of what makes Mosport Mosport is the danger element. If you listen to old riders they will tell you Mosport has never been safe for bikes. Just like what makes Calabogie "unsafe" to race on (according to people who know better than I) is the natural, beautiful terrain you ride in/through, which is also part of it's appeal.

It's a personal choice. Which should be respected.

Don't get me wrong, I like the track, it's very fun. I wouldn't say I love it like so many other people, but I definitely have fun there. I have yet to try Calabogie. I will get up there some day. From what I hear there are a few spots in particular that are the spots to dial it down because of lack of runoff and nasty barriers.

Calabogie is great for so many reasons. But if you're unsure of the run off then try Mid Ohio. Kinda like a Calabogie for turns and elevation changes with tons of run off. And garages with power and air. And no mosquitos. And closer than Calabogie for a lot of west enders. I'm supposed to be heading there in September if I can get my act together.

And, like I said, it's a personal choice. I certainly wasn't questioning your choice. I kinda respect you for having the ability to rationalise and strip away the emotion and macho BS that goes with track riding.

Yeah, Mid-Ohio is a great track. I'd like to try it some day too. For me it's about allocation of funds. haha...

Thanks.

Mid Ohio is $365 for 2 days. You'd need 2 nights hotel ($60 per room) and gas money to get there. A garage is $50 per day and would hold 4 or 5 bikes no problem. The most cost effective way to do Mid Ohio is with a group of 3 or 4 to share gas/hotels/garage etc. But the basic track time is cheap I think. The big downer is they only offer Monday/Tuesday motorcycle track days.

If you consider Mosport is $260 for a day. Calabogie a similar amount. Even TMP is $135(?) for a day.

When I did Pro 6's trackday in July Sandy said it was their last trackday that they would be hosting at Mosport (CTMP). CTMP would not offer him anything for next year. I hope that will change but for the moment that's what I'm hearing.
Wow! At the Mondayriders meeting Sandy at CTMP Sandy did notsay that. At that meeting he saidthat a lot of rumours are floating around but they haven’t heard anything frommanagement regarding the track not being available to bikes next year. Also noting that they have a good relationshipwith management and that they(Pro 6) enjoy going there. Was that a private discussion?

Yes it is very strange, Bogie ok for trackday's but not for racing, yet Mosport is ok for both.

Reastically both of them are high risk, that's the difference between the two tracks and the other "parking lot" track's we have in Ontario.

I have never raced at Mosport or Bogie, but i do acknowledge there is a big difference(even in my own slow speed) between race pace and a track day pace.

I just checked and it's only 100km farther for me to go to Mid-Ohio instead of Calabogie. Definitely more cost effective. Maybe in a few years. TMP is too expensive for what it is... GBM is cheaper and a far better track IMO.

I heard the same as you did Steve, even encouraged all riders to e-mail Mosport saying how much we would like to be back next year.

I was just told this week that CTMP is removing the oval and go cart track .. and replacing it with a 3 km track which will now host the bikes instead of the big track.

Sources say that it will be firmed up by late september. So that organizers can have dates picked out for the 2014 track day season.

I've heard this too. Didn't hear that the kart track was going, but the oval is already closed AFAIK. I girl I know that officiates said they had their last event there earlier this year.

A fact my Waterloo dwelling track buddy reminds me of often.:D

Other than CSBK the bikes simply don't bring in enough cash on the big track. Look at the money that they're spending. They need to bring in stuff like NASCAR and AMLS.... or start charging $400/day for a trackday.
Sorry it could be the R/D track than ..

Yes I believe it is the RDT track that is getting ripped up along with the oval.

Are you referring to spectators?

It seems like every Mosport track day is booked way in advance so the interest is definitely there.
I'm sure if they host more motorcycle days they won't be disappointed.

Im talking about spectators and track rental fees.

Do the math. 200 riders on a weekend at $230 per. Or 10,000 spectators at $30-$40 (plus registration for whatever event is running). There are often profit sharing agreements between a series promoter and track ownership too. Mosport or Pro6 don't get to split any spectator fees when there aren't any.

PS. Registration is fully booked up. They have a huge waiting list currently too for each group.

Damn, was hoping to confirm that day off and book this afternoon. Ah well, i guess that means an extra bogie day to add to financial schedule.

And I can also confirm that Sandy did NOT say the last day Pro6 day there would be the last day ever, at least not in the drivers meeting. I love Mosport and actually consider it an honor to be able to ride a track with so much history, so close to home.
