First time using DOT track tire recommendation?

Bridestone R10's are a great tire , and if you haven't done so already , raise your forks about 10mm on the ZX6.

Is that specific to the 2013 ZX6R? Just wondering because my steering geometry and forks are slightly different then the 2009-12 ...I have heard it is popular to raise the newer GSXR's and Ohlins makes taller fork caps so you do it, but I havent heard of it being done one ZX6R's.

I might have a Ohlins NIX 30mm kit in by the time the track day comes

pick the one you get the best deal on, you'll be fine with any of the current front line DOT race tires

Yeah Im going shopping, dont really feel like ordering in tires. Just gonna pass buy Pr06 and Riders and see who can give me a better deal...

The 211 is pretty close in compound to the slick. I think that your suspension and general set up wern't the best. Whatever slide I've had from the NTECs has been progressive, fairly readable (with my ability level) and not agressive in any way. Apart from when they're completely done. And even then when they let go they wern't too bad.

Yes I believe it had a lot to do with stock rear shock, many people had told me I needed a better suspension to progress any further. Finally after 12 years riding I finally got a aftermarket shock, so I will see what all the hype is about..

Is that a challenge? LOL lets do it

Im going to try and show up.

Challenge lol....no way I can compete with that bike or experience..maybe in a year we will see.

Ah sorry about that , I forgot you had a 2013 , mine is a 2011. Not sure about the 2013 but you should quickly find out within your first lap or two , cheers!

Yeah I know sliding isn't fast or cost effective, but its fun so I go with it...If the rear breaks loose I naturally want to get on the gas and drift out of it, rather the let off it and possibly high side. My new bike has traction control and I hate it on the street, but I will defiantly give it try at the track. And Im just wanting to have some fun on a trackday, so a few slides here and there isn't going to hurt my chances at winning anything. If I got into racing then I would have to work on not doing that anymore for sure. Also if that were the case Id probably stick with the slicks and warmers

Oh I totally get that, just saying if you have more than one goal (having fun and going fast) then it's hard to find the perfect tire. Like looking for a tire that's great in the mud and gives good fuel efficiency, or something. But if I had to choose one, I'd go choose fun over fast too. Which should lead you to the less grippy street tire. There's a reason the FR-S uses the same tires as the Prius!

Man I havent been on a track in 2 years or more, Im a newb just like you at this point, damn your even one step ahead with one day under your belt already...And our cc's are equal lol

Street tires break loose too easily, I am not going to use them for sure

I was most interested in the difference between a slick and a DOT of the same brand, I was wondering if the compounds and over all feel is roughly the same besides the DOT's having grooves and being able to run in the wet?
The Dunlop Ntecs I ran were great but they were funny sizes and really raised my ride height, and I didnt make the suspension changes that they most likely require to work properly. I had a 155/70 rear and 125/80 front

Ok so one of the my preferred local shops suggested a set of Pirelli Dragon super Corsa Pro's

Now he said that majority of 600 riders are using the 190 rear, so he only stocks them in 190. So I have to decide if I want to order in a 180 in or go with what he says most other 600 guys are using the 190.

Humm what do you guys think about the 190?

Do you not trust your local dealer? ;)
He's right.
Get what he has, I run a 190/60 rear, can't really say I notice a massive difference d/t a track tire being so different than a street tire in the first place... 60 vs 55, low track pressures, etc.

Its pretty common to use 190s on the 600. I used them on a zx6 last year. Went up one tooth on rear sprocket to account for the larger diameter tire.

Nothing to do with trust, just asking for opinions. I ran a 195/70 slick before so I know its popular to run larger then 180 on a 600, was just wondering how many people prefer the 190 and not just buy it because that is what is in stock at the time. Or because the shop told them everyone else is using 190's...I also went to Riders choice and they were going to sell me a 180, so I have options and therefore was looking for opinions outside of the stores....

He also mentioned some people have problems with the 190 because they are not pushing hard enough to keep heat in the tire, and in that situation the 180 works better for them.

Here is what he said when I asked about the 190
"
There’s pro and cons like everything else. The 190 jacks the back up for better drop in and gives a slightly bigger contact patch. But the bigger patch only makes sense if the rider is aggressive enough to get it up to temperature. In your case I have no worries about that but some of the squids are not lighting the 190 up. Mind you they are probably not lighting the 180 up either."

Dragon Supercorsa? Are you sure they didn't say Diablo Supercorsa? The Dragon has been obsolete since about 2007.

If you want to slide then you should prob go with Pirelli. Dunlops don't really slide.

Unless it was his mistake here is his Email response when I asked for track tires he stocks

"For example a set of Dragon Supercorsa Pro in 120/190 with a soft front and medium rear runs at $*** plus tax"

I am 99% going with a Pirelli, just have to decide on size, model, and compounds

Dragons don't exist anymore as far as I know, so that was probably just a brain fart. The Diablo Supercorsa is the spec tire for AM/Pro Sportbike in the Nationals (and World Super Sport for that matter).

Edit: So I just checked the Orion Motorsports website and they do still list a Dragon Supercorsa Pro. For what it's worth I do not know a single person using that tire on the track. If you want to consult other rider's on tire performance it's best to use a tire that some other people are actually using.

Probably a brain fart, it was Tony from BSR who is stocking the tires for his racing customers, so I know people are using what he would be selling me. Most likely some on this site buy from him as well

The supercorsa are awsome handles great you wont be dissapointed with those tires. They are the best dot race tires in my eyes.

I have only used 190 on my ZX6, then again Dunlop only does 190 for their DOT's. I can tell you though when I went from the /55 to the /60 I had to totally change my front and rear height settings to accommodate, more than I expected. The 190/60 is a beast of a tire when you put them side by side - I am pretty sure the supercorsa is pretty similar in how greatly different the /55 and /60 look and their overall diameter difference. Something to keep in mind depending on your fork height 'adjustability'.

I have a brand new Ohlins rear shock that I just put on the bike, and I ordered the Ohlins NIX 30mm fork cartridge kit with springs last week. The fork kit should be here in a week, once I have that I will install the kit and the tires. Then I will be taking the bike to a shop to have the suspension setup for the tires and overall setup I have at that time. Im not sure if the fork cartridge kit tops are taller to allow more height adjustability like they are for some models, even if they are not I have about 7-10mm of fork raising available from stock...

I am familiar with the way these bigger tires raise the bike, as I have used Dunlop slicks in the past that were 125/80 front 195/70 rear. Those really jacked my bike up, and at that time I had stock suspension with no tuning. This time around I want to do it properly, and see what a difference a properly setup suspension makes...

Ive got an Ohlins rear and cartridges as well, for reference my rear is about as short as it will go and the cartridges are flush with triple to balance out the 190/60 on my ZX6.

..... and see what a difference a properly setup suspension makes...

I will take a guess and say you wont be disappointed.
