CBR 125 uphill?

Hey just a quick question about the 125. Just curious on how the bike handles going uphill.
I live on the Grimsby mountain so I have about a 1KM stretch of just uphill riding to get to my house. Ranges all the way up too around 40 degrees (if not for most of the way)

I saw a video on youtube of a guy trying to go up a smaller hill and he couldnt get past 33 km/h. I'm a little hesitant because I've got a 125 lined up for very cheap and there's no point in getting it if I can't even make it up a hill! :P

I don't see any issue with it going uphill...I had the bike for a season and never had a problem going up hill, just keep the revs up while you do it. If it's in the low rpm range it'll definitely struggle (ie: below 7,000rpm)
 
Going up the hill in Grimsby is do-able, but you wont be gaining any speed. You'll probably be able to hold 70km/h -ish going up the hill, which is more than the speed limit.

You'll have to be full throttle and in the correct gear/rpm to achieve that though.
 
I find that I'm able to still gain speed on approx 40 degree hills (usually less than 1km) up to 80km/h and stay there while using full throttle sitting up right. Of course, you gotta be riding in high rpms(around 10k-11k) in the right gear (I think usually 4th as I would lose speed if I went in to 5th).
 
How long do you plan on keeping this 125? If it's for a season, then do it as it seems like you are getting a good deal. If you plan on keeping for a few seasons, I would go with the more expensive 250. You want to enjoy your ride don't you!
 
If you are a salad dodger there may be a problem but it depends on what degree of salad dodging you do.

The bike will get me through the rest of this season and maybe a couple months of the start of next. Depending on how I'm feeling I'll go too a 500 or 600

I'd usually just get a "oh 125 is **** cant even go fast yada yada yada" so I really appreciate the help guys
 
I had a 125 and it was great and so much fun riding. Uphill was no problem for me even with 2up. Get it u will have so much fun with it and after this season get a bigger bike. Honestly i still miss my 125 and wish i never sold it and just kept it for fun riding.
 
Twyn Rivers is a ***** on a 125. lol You definitely need a running start for the hill. It's a great bike but it definitely works hard to get up some hills with a nasty incline.

Wow.. uphill and 2up?? You two must been super small.
 
What year 125 are you looking at? I had the 2008 and heard that they really improved them when they went to the bigger body style in 2010+ (?). The $800 difference may be enough to sway you to go straight to the 250 if you plan on keeping it longer. But overall the 125's a good bike.
 
I'm probably a little bigger than you and I have a blast on the 125's. Never gone any distance on them but I think they would be fine on the highway over distance, you may be stuck to 100 kph max.
The amount of outright abuse I have seen these little bikes take and they still keep on ticking, .......must be the valves that make that sound.
Besides, whatever you lose going up the hill you will get back coming down...
 
There is no chance that the hill in question is actually a 40% grade.

But ... as for getting up the actual slope on the mountain access roads near Grimsby ... No problem - full throttle in the right gear. Done it many times.

This video shows down one of them and up the next. Both down and up were slowed down by cars. Highway run later in the video, too.

the 125 will make it up a hill it just on how u ride the bike al so and on top of the how much wight is on the bike to if i was u i would just go 250 or even 600

I'd say near the top of the mountain it gets too 45 degrees. It's very steep hill. After reading all the comments I'm a lot more confident in getting a 125 then I was before. Thanks guys
 
Buy a 500. PM me, i can get you a great deal on an 07 GS500. 125's and 250's are a waste of money. If you can't ride a GS500, you probably shouldn't be riding. Its a perfect starter bike.
