I had a good experience with cops today

lol - what a nice interaction, they illegally stopped you for no reason and did not give you a ticked also for no reason - Super awesome cops, however you call them because someone stole your bike and they are too busy to come. Awesome

OP, you basically got violated by the Force. Nothing to be thankful about. Nothing.

Hey all,

The cop was in a car behind me and the passenger cop jumped out and ran up to me.

I know they ran my plate because they called me by my name.

Every other (and there have been many) experience (except R.I.D.E checks) that I've had with cops have been really bad, like abuse of authority, illegal search, bullying, tickets for no valid reason, intimidation, threats etc. And I have always tried to be polite...

When I was younger I ALWAYS ran from cops, but only if I was 99% sure they did not get my plate which was every time on my bike. I never was caught but almost caused my demise a few times. These day's I have a kid and much more respect for life in general to do things like that.

I'm not happy because they pulled me over for no reason, I'm more surprised and relieved that there are decent humans that are cops who will treat people with respect. A few wasted minutes and a new way of seeing Toronto's finest.

I left the interaction feeling like I just met some nice people, regardless of the context.

I would have never guessed I would be saying things like this ever in my life, that's what is weird.

Best,

Why isn't this thread merged inside the good/bad/ugly cops thread like all the bad news threads?

Because IMO it is a good news thread.

Edit; Oops, I did not know about the Good, Bad and Ugly cop section. Like I said, I would never have guessed.......

getting astopped for no reason is crap, but the cops can always find a reason, suspicion of "whatever".

I was pulled over once by some cop that "just wanted to make sure everything was in order" Cop tried to charge me witrh no insurance and plate obstruction based on flawed reasoning and a paperwork issue. Went to court, all tossed but it still cost me some time and money

I bet you didn't give the cop a hard time AT ALL.

Actually no I didn't. I am old enough and wise enough to know that getting into a pissing contest at the side of the road does nothing. A second cop stopped while she was going over my paperwork, The cop that stopped me asked the other cop if I was ok to ride on the highway as I only had my M2 designation at the time.

The cop was a rookie and was chastised by the judge in court and the prosecutor also sought for the tickets to be dropped. in the end it was a waste of time for everyone.

meh, about the only good thing is that you didn't end up with a ticket.

Getting pulled over without probable cause is BS. I had an OPP officer ask to search my car because she saw a bunch of computer equipment in the back seat (i'm a computer tech, and was on my way to an install). I told her no, and then she asked what the computer stuff was for. I told her it was for a client, and she let me go.

Alright then my sarcasm was unwarranted. Cop was a d**k.

Why is it BS? It's legal for the purpose of checking lic./reg./ins. and for good reason; no one has a right to drive. That cop who started probing into your belongings was treading into a breach of your charter rights however, according to this; http://www.criminaltriallawyers.ca/?q=know-your-rights
