Local shop to buy a MSR or FLY Racing helmet?

I'm looking to get either a MSR Xpedition or a Fly Racing Trekker dual sport helmet (or at least want to check them out to see if I like either), and I will not buy a helmet without knowing how it fits.

Has anyone here noticed either of these helmets in stock somewhere locally? I realize I could start calling shops one by one, but I am far too lazy for that nonsense.

Cheers

I have never heard of these brands

Dual Sport Plus in Stoney Creek stocks the Fly Trekker.

I got my fly trekker at Royal.

Personally I wish I had splurged on the Icon Variant. I put both on and the Icon Variant seemed more cushiony, but I figured F it. Now realizing how loud the fly is on the highway, I really wish I got the Icon Variant.

Im pretty suRe Royal Distributing carries some fly stuff, and depending on where you live there is a shop in Shelburne called Strickly Recreation they stock some FLY and MSR stuff and can order anything in you want. Gamma is the distributer for Fly so any shop that can order through Gamma is good for you aswell.

That was my next question... is how do people that have them like either helmet. I've read that the MSR and the trekker are identical helmets with different badges, but as I haven't seen either in real life I can't attest to that.

I will have to check out the Icon now as well.

Realistically, I don't need a dual-sport helmet. I was on some back trails on Sunday and my street helmet was fine, but for some reason I wasn't 100% happy with the face-shield down or with it open. I guess I just missed the last MX helmet I had with goggles -- maybe because of the wider view range, more air-flow, or perhaps because I could hear the engine better? So when I saw a dual-sport helmet that has characteristics of both street and dirt helmets and can take goggles I started thinking that might be what I am looking for.

I suppose I will check out Royal and see how the Fly and Icon look/feel and go from there.

Thanks for the help.

I got my fly trekker from Dual sport plus at the motorcycle show for a decent price. I am a newbie so my opinion is limited to 3000km of riding with it. On the road its good but the wind noise is there at highway speeds so I use ear plugs. The wind will also grab the peak of the helmet somewhat at 100km/h+ if you turn your head. On trail its great because you can wear goggles and still use the visor if needed. Overall I am very happy with it.

it is good for wearing goggles, but I found with just the visor down I almost crashed a bunch. For me the little bend at the bottom of the visor causes some distortion. It was bad enough that I had to just leave the visor up.

Just remember that a dual sport helmet is just like a bike. It'll do both, but won't be near as good as a dedicated one.

I went to Royal on Sunday to check out the Fly Trekker... and I didn't buy it. To me it felt kind of cheap/weak and as someone mentioned I don't like how the shield has essentially 3 positions: open, middle, or closed.

The Icon Variant right beside it looked and felt like a much better helmet and may be the way I go.

The fly helmet is plastic. I got the same cheap/weak vibe from it when I saw it at Royal.

There are also Shoei Hornet DS and AGV AX-8 Evo DS. Higher priced but better helmets.

They all make noise on the road. Enough that you will want ear plugs.

.

Mine did it's job when I smashed my head on the ground going around 20km/h. I had a killer headache for the res of the day, but I lived. Lol
