knee and shin guards

v guards as well, great point about then fitting well under pants with its low profile. The top strap can get a little uncomfortable at times as the velco can bite if not aligned exactly with each other.

I use a pair of Icons under my kevlar jeans:

and a pair of strap-on knee pucks on the outside to protect the jeans:

I would think the tube type would be hot and I like to had hard armor on the knees.
Straps are kiss on and off - tube type you have lose the boots

I use them mainly for commuting under kevlar jeans and change when I get to work anyhow. I can't seem being much hotter then a big chunk of plastic strapped to the front of your leg. I've had the knox cross guards for years, and they are a good product, just looking for a change.

Tube type is usually made of a moisture-wicking material so temperature has never been an issue for me (don't get me wrong it gets sticky but no worse than wearing any other protective gear).

Currently have the Knox Cross Lite knee pads which has hard armour built in to the tube, but notice a lack a feel due to the armour (trade off for more protection). Hard armour is usually more bulky also.

I've heard many good things about the Vs - but =they're pretty long right? I'm just 5'3".

I have the Icon Field Armor Stryker... stay away from them, they are really bad.

Bought the Dainese last winter and they are a lot better... but still a bit bulky under my jeans.

Karen they are -- I'm 5'8/9 but only have a 29" inseam (so short legs), and they work awesome with short boots, but with my new Supertechs they fit too far into the boot to be comfortable. I'm actually looking at the Dainese Soft Six for when I use the full boots, and will use the Dainese Vs if I ride with short boots (typically if I plan on more walking than riding I leave the Supertechs at home).

For the Strykers, I actually picked them up first from GP over a year ago, and promptly returned them for the Dainese. Without a top strap nothing pushes the knee down so it never articulates on it's own. I'd never buy knee pads that didn't have both a top strap and bottom strap, or some form of tube serving the same purpose.

I am thinking of selling a pair of these Dainese that I have.

Thinking of switching to Troy Lee KG 5450 Knee Guard.
Anyone tried these?

Are those Troy Lee's CE rated? Here's a similar looking knee guard by Leatt which are CE rated (Leatt 3DF Keen Guard).

Oh, thanks for that. I'm 29" inseam as well. Without having tried them on, they seem to have a pretty sleep profile. Am thinking of either the Vs, Icon Field Armour (old version, not stryker), or Alpinestars Vapor. Will likely get 2 out of those 3.

Whatever I choose, they're going to be worn outside my pants for sure. Wouldn't fit otherwise.

The TLD were not CE rated. I dont like the hard front plastic that my dainese uses, so thats why this TLD looked interesting. For my uses, I'm likely to go down at slow speeds and nothing high impact so something softer would be better for me. The TLD doesn't have straps so I'm concerned they'll stretch over time.

This Leatt looks interesting... nice to see the 3DF being used in armour now ... know where to get it?

The Vs might still work for you depending on your boots -- Touring boots would be more accepting of them on me for sure, it's that the Sueprtechs fit pretty snugly around my calves, not leaving much room for the Vs at all (which come down pretty close to my ankle). GP might have them if you want to try them on -- I also wanted to try on the Vapors, but I'm not sure who has them locally for sale.

GP carries the Leatt, at least on the web. No clue if they have it in store to see and try on though, but I might have to look at it as well (as it does sound interesting).

Thanks. I'll see if I can pop by GP. I was just going to buy online.

Quick question, would it be fine to wear hip/knee/shin armor under regular jeans or is that a no no ? Sorry to hijack thread
