Buying a bike situation... :(

Yep, he also needs to get a guard dog, replace all locks on his house and install CCTV cameras all around his house. You also forgot about electrified barbed-wire fence and a water well with alligators.

OP, just re-read what daisoman and Paul said. Liens sometimes take forever to clear off MTO record, but as long as you have a stamped discharge paper and can confirm with the bank over the phone that lien has been paid off, you're good to go. To be honest, if you're that paranoid, just get a friend to pick up the bike rather than getting it delivered. And yes, my first bike came with one key too. Original owner (from Belleville) never came to steal it from my home in Etobicoke. Damn, I was lucky.

I guess I grew up in the wrong neighbourhood, none the less yeah now that this happened im atleast getting it delivered to my local mall or something...so long he gets the MTO to say its paid off he will get my cash till then i'll wait.

Did confirm the sale to him though, won't be looking for another bike until he tells me otherwise

Is this the green 650 in Newmarket? I'm checking it out tomorrow for a friend of mine.

nope, didn't even see a green one in newmarket? what price you getting?

if it wasn't on kijijii won't know about it, if you need some bikes to look at i had three 06' 650's for $3500, aswell as two 09's 650s for $4500 and one 08' 650 for $4000

these guys are all around GTA, from sauga to newmarket

if you need any details just pm me

If someone wanted to come and get bike with the key they can just cut third copy.
Having one key means nothing. I have 3 for my bike. One is flat copy for wallet when traveling...

Im strapping a bomb to my bike

wait are you serious? so what should I do about it? check the bike for a gps? take the bike myself and hand deliver it to my house??????

I see, okay I will notify him of that after I get better notice on this key...

=.= ....wow not cool man i have a medical condition of severe paranoia had me going for a second almost canceled the deal.....

it all makes sense now

It could be weeks or perhaps months if you wait for the MTO. As stated earlier in this thread, go to the bank with the seller and get the notice of discharge.

Did confirm the sale to him though, won't be looking for another bike until he tells me otherwise

Doesn't mean a thing, unless you left a deposit.

Holy **** the level of paranoia is too damn high in this thread. All my bikes have been delivered to my place, with one key. I once even bought a bike without the UVIP.

The owner sounds like a legit seller, has the bill for everything. Has a stamped bank note, what more do you want?

If it makes you more comfortable, meet at a Mto and make the transfer on the spot. Call up insurance, and plate the bike and ride it home from there.

OP, just relax. No point in worrying about theft etc. go with your gut when dealing with people and buying things. It's the lien that should be your main concern. Just go with him to the bank and get a letter on official letterhead stating that nothing is owed on the bike and find out if/when a call to MTO will be made.

Okay, sounds good, its just that lien I we were literally setting up to deliver the bike then I saw the lien as I was looking over the UVIP.

Only reason why I was suspicious in the first place is he didn't have the UVIP and didn't really want to get it until I said I needed it to buy the vehicle. He also didn't have any receipts or paperwork for the lien until I mentioned the lien to him.

Therefore it seems like he was hiding it, if he gets me that bank of discharge then I'll buy the bike, he was defiantly a nice guy have his address all the same on his DL,Paperwork, where we met so it's unlikely he will shaft me. I'll update this thread if his bike isn't sold :(

He's setting you up for something and he's playing you like a fiddle.

I've bought two bikes from two stand up guys who didn't have UVIP. I also don't plan to buy the UVIP when I sell mine :P Just saying ... not suggestion whether in this case the seller is sketchy or not.

i sold my last bike with no uvip...no background of vin check was done.. the buyer didnt want it, i said i would go get it but he declined.
he picked it up at my house so its not like he didnt know where i lived.

personally, i run a lot of vin checks to make sure im not buying something with strings attached.. it happens too often to not look into the titles. if something seems skechy it probably is.

JUST WALK AWAY!!!

Otherwise... you will come back next week starting a bunch of new threads how you got screwed.... or perhaps some issue with the bike, salvage title bike with a switched VIN... etc.

If you are that paranoid, just pay a few hundred bucks more for another bike. A bike with 3 sets of key, full user manual and record of sale, clean UVIP with no lien and do a complete carproof record of the bike as well.

Anyways I went to check over the paperwork and found there was 1 lein on the UVIP (he didn't have the UVIP until i asked him for it) I asked him about it and he said that he paid it off last week (21st of may 2013) he had the receipt from bank of canada and a stamp showing the date as may 21st. Anyways he told me that it takes a week for the MTO to update their computers and show that the lein has been payed off.

Go here for the latest information on liens: https://www.personalproperty.gov.on.ca/ppsrweb/en/enquiry/cc_enquiry.jsp?jsOn=Y (It costs $8 but it gives you the most up to date info)

He offered me a deal, next week hes gonna deliver the bike to my house with the updated paperwork with NO leins on the UVIP, along with ONE KEY no manuals and all the paperwork.

Only one key is really sketchy especially if he is going to deliver it to your house, I would either ride it home or have him drop it off at a friend's house. I would be surprised if he lost the spare key and manual, but didn't lose any other paperwork (sounds fishy)...

Also don't trust the UVIP for accurate lien info, the day that you buy the bike you should check that website I posted above for a lien search against the VIN.

Anyone have advice to anything here? Should I be worried? Sound like a regular scam? I was kind of off when I saw the key ignition, one side of the circle is a bit bent. Could it be stolen? I scanned the VIP on the CPIC stolen vehicle search and nothing popped up

If you searched the VIN and it didn't show up as stolen it probably wasn't, so I wouldn't be too concerned with that.

Just make sure the guy who is selling the bike actually is on the ownership papers and the VIN matches up.
